Boost and EGT combo gauges - Syncro_G - 01-28-2010

I'm looking for a combo gauge and was wondering what others here are using.
The dual gauge from Spa looks interesting but the name is impossible to search for on STD without getting a flood of posts on SPAcers.

Spa dual is 450 and includes the senders. Has alert and logging capabilities.

BD x monitor looks interesting but would be more expensive since it doesn't come with senders (edit - Just talked with BD. the price does include all senders so it's about the same price as the spa dual gauge)

westach makes a good unit (very old-school looking)- no extra features and it's just the gauge so it's probably going to cost the same as the other units once installed.

RE: Boost and EGT combo gauges - willbhere4u - 01-28-2010

I'm running plain vdo egt and boost and an oil temp myself

RE: Boost and EGT combo gauges - ForcedInduction - 01-28-2010

I think Westach is what you're looking for.

multiple gauges are great - I just don't have the dash space and still need to a fit battery monitor somewhere. Also am trying to keep it really non-techy.

It's definitly the most old school. I just wish it were back lit. Though not essential, I like that the alarms and logging that the other two offer.

RE: Boost and EGT combo gauges - willbhere4u - 01-28-2010

Did you check out the gauge setup on this 300sd looks really cool but expensive!

and what do you mean by non-techy?

When I'm done it will look factory! That is a stock gauge pod from a vw golf!

Was there supposed to be a link or do you mean the VW MKII pod?
I like it (have been a VW fan for a long time) but I don't have that kind of space. The truck doesn't have much of a center console to work with. I'm trying to avoid taking up space below the heater controls as that's right over the cup holders and is valuable space.

"techy" may not be the right word because what I'm imagining will probably require more hidden tech than just adding a bunch of gauges.
But the intent is to have as few gauges as possible or at least the perception that there are fewer while still getting the important stuff (boost, egt, oil pressure, water temp, battery A, battery B, etc)
A row of gauges across the dash looks "techy" but if I can get something with alarms and readings that swap to show what's important at the moment, that would be ideal. That's more like what you'd see on a modern car with an engine monitor computer.

Yeah, I remember seeing that and also figured it was DIY. It's more or less what I'm looking for. The BD X-monitor appears to be similar (tracks 3 inputs) and the form factor might be able to fit in my ash tray slot. it's just $$$.

Do you have space above the steering wheel column?
This might work.

Unfortunately, I don't have any space between steering wheel and dash. problem would be easily solved.

Here's another that looks interesting...

their simple digital readout looks like a full featured product that can be put in tight places.
Also their "DashDAQ" looks really cool but well beyond my budget and is too big to fit anywhere but on the dash.

RE: Boost and EGT combo gauges - SurfRodder - 01-30-2010

Have you thought about a "serial" gage... those take many inputs and cycle through them. They are all digital, but it meets the one gage requirement. They are pretty cool and can be programmed to cycle through all the inputs and flash to a particular reading if/when a setpoint is met.

popular brands are AEM and defi... although I think autometer has one too. I wouldnt be surprised if VDO makes one.

It's my supermeter project. I do custom setups for sale with different specs some with larger display, some with small display, also many pressure sensors are supported, with egt or without, single afr and dual afr for V-engines.

this looks interesting! I have a little matrix of warning lights in the middle of my gauge cluster. If I were able to Relocate them or reproduce their functions, I could put an LCD screen there (like the later model G-wagens have)
hazard/ turn signal
front locker engaged
rear locker engaged
(and a planned aux fuel filter pressure)

RE: Boost and EGT combo gauges - Syncro_G - 02-03-2010

Just found a BD X-monitor for less than 1/2 what everyone else was selling it for so I bought it. (fingers crossed)
it's one that comes with a dodge ram pillar mount. I'll either cut that up for my use or come up with some new mount.

mostly. Boost and EGT are universal (come with senders) while the optional third input can be configured to receive an add on module or tap directly into one of several Detroit wire harnesses. I'm going to call today to see if I can hook up a vdo oil pressure sender to it (gwagen doesn't have a gauge like the w123 does)

I talked to Chris at BD
Out of the box, the gauge kit will do Boost and EGT.
With an add on kit, you can choose one of the following:

1080120 X-Monitor Remote Temp Kit - 1/8npt Sender
1080125 X-Monitor Remote Temp Kit - Dodge
1080135 X-Monitor Brake Pressure Kit - Dodge
1080156 X-Monitor Fuel Pressure Kit - Dodge 98.5-07
1080160 X-Monitor Auxiliary Fuel Tank Level Interface Kit
1080127 X-Monitor Remote Temp Kit - Ford
1080160 X-Monitor Auxiliary Fuel Tank Level Interface Kit
1080126 X-Monitor Remote Temp Kit - Chev Duramax
1080136 X-Monitor Brake Pressure Kit - Duramax

As you can see - most options are tailored to detroit diesels.

Thanks for the reply,i prefer the dakota digital gauges as i ll build my own dashboard.....

RE: Boost and EGT combo gauges - SpecialDelivery - 12-02-2012

I went ape on this topic for while. I spoke with a tuner friend of mine, told him what I wanted to do, he gave me zietronix, I called and spoke with them. They could do some of what I wanted, but thier were all geared toward a gasser so I would always have a channel wasted on AFR. I found a really cool DIY and another company who CAN make you exactly what you want...yes you have to use their sensors and no you can add on later as the controller box for the LED panel would need not only a firmware upgrade but also a port to accommodate your new sensor input. Duh. But it looks like a pretty good cost / value ratio considering the options. I was going to and still might put energy into making one...I've got a couple of bud's who's handy w computers Wink anyway http://zada-tech.com/ seems like the cats pajamas so far on this topic

RE: Boost and EGT combo gauges - Jambo - 12-03-2012

I use this one in my G and am very happy with it.
Its the MadDog EMS1.
