OM603 in what order do I change the settings? - justcruisin - 09-24-2011

Hi guys,

I have a 300 tdt (Euro) 1992 w124 with om603 and Bosch M pump.

I want to try some things I read here but doesn't know where to start?

The car is stock and for now I would like to get 30-40hp extra.

I know I can raise the turbo press a bit, max out the pump but in what order and with what values?

Should I raise the turbopressure to a certain value and then screw up the ip or the other way around?

How important is the stock exhaust with this setting?

Intercooler useful at this stage?

Anything else I can do with this setting?

When I get more experienced I would like to try a HX35 with bigger elements in the ip but for now I'm quite uncertain.

Thanks

Does it have a cat? If so remove it. Intercooler would only help a teensy bit at this stage, to hold full power without the EGT getting too high basically. Probably would be a good idea to install an EGT gauge, even before any big IP changes.

Start with the turbo, which do you have btw? Adjust the wastegate to 18psi or somewhere in that neighborhood, that should help when you adjust the IP afterwards.

If it still is in stock condition I would first install a few gauges (exhaust gas temperature, turbo pressure, air temperature on the turbo pressure side) and then drive it for a few months.

You will need the gauges later anyways and that way you see how the engine behaves when in stock condition.
The question is: Are you patient enough to do that instead of making power? Big Grin

In the pic he has a a-pillar gauge pod already.

A few months ago I have installed a boost gauge, still have room for an EGT gauge.
Turbo press is around 12 psi (stock).

Looks like the cat is still in place, will remove this first, guess the turbo will spool easier.
