before and after, VW blown engine - JB3 - 12-21-2011

figured you guys might enjoy this minor project! Smile

Picked up an 86 jetta for the shell since my 85 was rusted out completely. The kid had blown the engine, but the car is in good shape, so I pulled the engine with intention of pulling off useful stuff, and scrapping the rest

heres the damage, spun bearing on #1-

#1 rod was thrown into counterbalance/vacuum pump drive shaft, pieces of the drive shaft blew out of the block at #1, #2, and #3 cylinders

The damage was so extensive to the block, that instead of scrapping it, im making a coffee table out of it as sort of a cautionary tale. Big Grin
Working on legs now, heres the block after hot tanking, two coats of gloss black, two coats of clear, and bright orange highlights. The blow outs POP right off the black in person

Hope to have it finished as soon as I have a top mocked up

Very cool. You should make piston crown beverage coasters too!
