OM601 performance/adding Turbo. looking for Info - Twinturboguy - 03-14-2012

The dieselmeken guy posted to come to this website regarding how to do things like this to your diesel VVV
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcmAlpgojkw&feature=plcp&context=C49107e7VDvjVQa1PpcFMNNAWWRWBhRhzlt5yO_JIjN0pVo_WMAPs=
I messaged him to ask if he's modified AM601 but have to wait for his reply.
This engine above is a 605 2.5L Non Turbo! so I think its possible to mod an 601 as well. This car above.. He claims he just modified a pump for it.. and thats it.. sick right?

So for now I was wondering if you all have any information on safe performance mods for this engine OM601 2.2L Diesel
I am not even expecting the power this guy got..
I'd be insanely happy with 175HP+
Stock engine gets 75-85HP
and the 605 guy has in video gets stock 85-100HP

2nd question is about Turboing.. If anyone has done it to a OM601
Any info as well?

Reason being the OM601 2.2L Diesel is a amazing strong engine that is fairly easy to get. and pushes near 50MPG! It would be greater to use this 601 than the 2.5 5cyl.

You can get lots of power from the OM 601. Here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msk5ajgku9M&feature=related is one proof of that, Check out the other videos that koppis86 has made too, he has 300hp in his 601 nowSmile It is not a big surprise that he is from FinlandBig Grin

I didn't even get to open link you just sent me. and I am already super excited. THX

LOL what a surprise when I opened the link up. haha

I need a how to link. Hopefully DieselMeken has pumps that work for this engine and get good performance.
woot

Well a trick pump will cost around $1k, and you need to fab a turbo and adapter.

I'd start with reading up on what size turbo you should get, and how you will adapt it. Find one that'll do the 175hp you want and not be too laggy. Here's what someone did for their older 4 cylinder, a GT2056V.

Also, there was a factory turbo 601, although I'm not sure if this odd looking manifold would be of any use to you:

Maybe simply grabbing a 6-cyl om603 manifold and blocking off the last two would do the trick for you:

RE: OM601 performance/adding Turbo. looking for Info - Twinturboguy - 03-15-2012

Thx ill look at all this info.
But why pump that much?
I'd guess like $200-400USD max
other thing is. Dieselmeken is getting that amazing power and he is just s 2.5L 5 Cyl Diesel Non Turbo (he has the non turbo model)
so 400HP TQ500++
with just special fuel pump.

So what would this 2.2L 4cyl make with just fuel pump.

Thx for vito turbo+manifold, I've heard of people using that manifold on the car. Just haven't seen pic or someone show it to me in depth.

But remember the 605 is a 4valve cylinder, not a 2valve (601,2,3)
you can get around 100hp/cyl with a good 604,5,6) motor, good turbo and a big pumpBig Grin Jeemu have done over 110hp/cyl in his 605...I don`t think you can get this poweroutput with the 2 valve design, but i reccon around 50-70hp easily pr cylinder:

RE: OM601 performance/adding Turbo. looking for Info - Twinturboguy - 03-15-2012

After doing a little more research... I found these.
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=26710&id=163&id=1864

It shows 1985 4cyl 2.2L Diesel N/A 26-35mpg
then 1986 (year usa switched to 5inline 2.5L) 25-34mpg

I thought the 2.5L would drop lot more in MPG. SO! This means I can take the 2.5L modded Pump from DieselMeken and get amazing power?
All i want it to be is set to where I get no massive black smoke coming out. Most HP possible safely without getting in trouble with police haha. I willbe gentle on the trans tho. Not wanting to smash and destroy the gears.
After that one day get stronger trans.

IS THIS REAL>? cause ima pick up a 5inline 2.5L 5spd manual

RE: OM601 performance/adding Turbo. looking for Info - EDH_Performance - 03-15-2012

(03-15-2012, 08:37 AM)Twinturboguy Thx.

So what you think a OM601 with modded pump will get N/A.

Turboing it would be the next step.

you will add 2-5hp maximum with another pump, you need more air mateWink

RE: OM601 performance/adding Turbo. looking for Info - Twinturboguy - 03-15-2012

yeah scratch that. I think I am going a different route. I did more research and found out the 2.2 4cyl is barely different in mpg vs the inline 5 2.5 n/a. 5spd
So i want make my car like Dieselmeken lol!

Trying to figure out if america sells the Diesel N/A 5 cyl 20 V 2,5Liter (identical to dieselmeken's)

We do have the Diesel N/A 5cyl 2.5L 5speed but i am trying to figure out if its 20V
I want to get a 1984-1991 model with close as possible engine.

So sorta bit confused now ugh.. This HP will only be possible with a Turbo Diesel? I thought the car in video is an N/A

RE: OM601 performance/adding Turbo. looking for Info - aaa - 03-15-2012

Dieselmeken's car is a 2.5 turbo, not a 2.5 NA. You will not make significant power gains without a turbo. So you should slap one on. Course an engine swap may be easier.

Here's a link on 190D fuel mileage:

RE: OM601 performance/adding Turbo. looking for Info - Twinturboguy - 03-16-2012

Thx. Check out my other thread. I think I am getting a
90-93 Inline 5CYL 2.5L Turbo 300TD
Many claim 26-34mpg+ so might be good choice for me. + has the turbo already Big Grin

how stock was the dieselmeken setup besides the pump?

RE: OM601 performance/adding Turbo. looking for Info - willbhere4u - 03-16-2012

mileage will drop with a bigger pump!

RE: OM601 performance/adding Turbo. looking for Info - Twinturboguy - 03-16-2012

Yeah I know. but like people I know from my community at 3si.org
Buddy of mine has a 1105 AWBHP (All Wheel Brake Horsepower) 1200TQ
3.0L 6Cyl Twin Turbo (3000gt VR4) 1000cc injectors+
and he still gets 25hwy mpg Big Grin (stock gets 18-25mpg-30 if you baby it)
So anythingispossible.
The bad mpg will be just when I step on it.
