adding filter to a fill rite pump - larsalan - 06-25-2012

Anyone know how to add a filter to this pump?

I have one of those and I'd love to plumb a spin on filter and housing onto it. Despite my efforts searching the net I have been unable to figure out a cheap option.

I guess I just need a reasonable price on a filter housing and filters. Then I can worry about plumbing them together.

maybe these are good cheap housings and filter?

or that goldenrod brand stuff

The goldenrod filters have gotten good reviews, one of them should have a water separator built in.

I also like to buy stuff from amazon. save me on tax and having to go to a store. Also, I trade books to them for store credit. As long as they have the golden rod I guess I go with that.
Look for a couple of plastic barrels around here too.

here's one with a housing for under $25!

Take a look around if you have any old farms in your area, lots of farm equipment often have filters mounts for the hydraulics

fuckin a, head down to the junkyard and see what I can score there.

I have the same pump, or a very similar one anyway, I used this filter:

just had to get the right pipe adapters and what not. The best part is being able to see all the crap, and also if you pump it backwards a little bit (slowly) it gets pushed out of the filter and you can watch it settle to the bottom, so you know you're increasing filter life

I think I prolly go with those cheapo heater oil filters. I got like $12 amazon credit and about 40 gal of oil to sort through.. It's nice, no meat. Just zucchini skin and stuff that I get trapped in my prefilter.
Just put in a few $ of #2 for a minute. And add some liquid wrench to clear all that sticky stuff too. Lucky to have a recycle center full of oil, paint thinner, 2 cycle oil, et cet.

well, I'll tell you what...
I plumbed that stock 617 filter/housing in line with this pump. It's not an ideal solution. Very fucking hard to pump through the filter. The pump says 100 turns does 7.5 gallons. By god I couldn't turn that thing around 100 times. Bending all around the top of the barrel and shit. Fuel leaking out the handle of the pump, total shit show.
I tried to see if there was a way to hook some sort of electric or pneumatic tool up to the crank but that was a no go.
Fucking sucks being poor. Trying to save on fuel and can't even afford any decent equipment to filter/pump it.
I guess this is why they have those tanks up in the air at the farm. Use gravity to push through the pump.
People are often selling those things too.

Those tractor supply filters aren't too expensive, and not too difficult to pump through when its warm out. The rest of the time, its not fun pumping. If you used gravity though you could just have two tanks, or however many tanks, and just have it filtering all the time.
