OM 606 Engine - speedwellfane - 12-10-2012

Hi Thanks to all for the info on 606 engines and 603 pumps.
I would like some more info please. I am fitting 2 606 3 lt D turbo engines in my boat I am changing the IP from the 606 and fitting the 603 IP
If I adjust the full load screw will this give me the fuel to run the 606 up to 150 hp or 170 hp without the turbo if so how many turns do you think it will need.
Also I need 2 flywheels and most of these cars in the UK are auto is there any other model that will have a flywheel that will fit.
Thanks
Regards Kevin

What do you mean by "150 hp or 170 hp without the turbo"?
You can use any flywheel from a W124 car, gasoline or diesel.

Hi Thanks for the reply I would like to run these engines without the turbo but would like to get the power output up as much as possible without have to tune the engine mechanically.
If I turn up the full load in the IP will this give me more power.
Thanks

Hi I can use turbos but in a boat you really need them to be water cooled as you have no air flow like a car and I would rather not use them if I can get the power up to say 150hp by adjusting the IP.

RE: OM 606 Engine - erling66 - 12-11-2012

The 606 without turbo is very slow until 4000-5000 rpm and that high rpm is not good for all day long in a boat, so I would recommend that you use turbo's. I have put a few turbo car engines in boats without water cooled turbo's and they are still runningSmile I have used a fan to cool the engine room if it gets too hot.
If you get a non turbo 606 up to 150hp, your talking 5000+rpm

RE: OM 606 Engine - mantahead - 12-11-2012

hi,
the other thing is, if your running these turbo engines n/a, then they have a different intake cam from an n/a engine which won't work as well.

Thanks for the info I will go down the turbo route will I be able to adjust the IP without fitting larger elements.
Thanks for all the help

With or without the turbo you're going to need a water cooled exhaust manifold cos that gets hotter than a hot thing (on a hot day, when it's hot Wink ). As said above any W124 flywheel will fit the 606 crank although later ones (93 +) have dual mass and you dont want one of them anywhere near a boat.

Where in the UK are you?

Hi Thanks for that and yes I know I need a water cooled manifold.

Give Dave Collins a ring regarding a flywheel. 07710 762986.

He breaks Mercs and is in Yorkshire. Tell him you spoke to Derek from the Merc Owners Club.

An alternative to that would be getting a steel blank machined up to fit to the TC mounting plate.

Humble apologies.

Digit trouble.

Remember to specify an 8bolt flywheel.
