K27 3060 turbo on OM606 with 7.5mm elements? - Corkuin - 03-24-2014

Hello,

I have an OM606 with 7.5mm elements (PPdiesel). Now I have here an KKK K27 3060 G11.11 turbo from an Deutz BF8L513C engine, V8 13.38 liter twin turbo.
This turbo is brand new, would this spin up on this engine or can I better throw it out? I know a HX40 would be better but money is an issue..

Measure the comp and turbine wheel size and take a few photos of the turbo. Then someone here can help you

K27.2 I use in my Fiat Uno Turbo 1.6 8 valve engine is from a Iveco 7,7 liter Bus, AR exhaust 15cm2, (searching info in Net near 1,05 AR Garrett equivalent), 56mm inducer 80,5mm exducer compressor, but not measured exhaust wheel diameters.
In second gear until 5.800rpm there is not boost.

Check ar in exhaust , probably T3 twin scroll, in the inner side is the number. Only way to see how works in the OM606 is fit it Big Grin

Sorry for my very late reply. The exhaust weel diameter is 65mm and the inlet compressor is 46.5mm.

Turbine shaft and wheel is identic on Porsche 911 turbo K27 but compressor and houdings are different.

TBH, this "old" K27 would not be my choice for a nowadays build. Its old technology, compared to todays knowledge these turbos are quite inefficient, sluggish and slow spooling....

The Holset from old trucks are also VERY old technology and slow spooling. The only advantage Holset have is the amount of air they can deliver. They are per se a Diesel turbo. However, a Chinese copy of a modern turbo is better than a 20yr old Holset and for half the price (Not in durability though, the Holset never breaks).

Modern fast spooling and efficient turbos cost money. Like Garret GTX-series, Turbonetics, BW and Precision. But turbos like the Garret GTX3076 have been cloned and sold on eBay for as little as $570 LINK

If you're building on a tight budget, just use what ever turbo you can find and try. Most turbos works OK. And if it's cheap it can lack a little driveability. Or try to build a compound setup from old used stuff. The beauty with building cheap is that you actually can try. If it don't work it doesn't matter that much.

A stock turbo would be perfect to spool your kkk27 Big Grin So I vote compound Cool

Dutch Pump Performance 7.5mm. How much do they deliver in CC before boost and with boost?

Thank you very much for your response. I will take a look what kind of low budget things I can find. I'm not quite sure about the CC's my pump can deliver. I already have it a few years now and it is modified by PP Diesel in Finland so no Dutch power Tongue Right now I have it still with the standard turbo but with a water cooled intercooler and larger exhaust from 76mm. I think it will be around 225hp but it is in my boat so I can't do a Dynojet run. The pump should be fine for 470hp did PP-Diesel tell me.

Now this is interesting... I looked up the gt3076r and the Chinese copies are going for less than £200. The only problem (sort of) is that it doesn't have a divided housing. I'm not too clued up about modern turbos but maybe you could recommend another turbo that has a divided housing?

Well if youre building on the cheap the likelyhood is you will be retaining the factory exhaust manifold which is not divided so there is no problem. This is Vote #2 for compound, if not you could always buy my T3/HX35 - OM60X manifold adapter as I'm going compound.. Wink

I am trying to build on the cheap, but when you're going this far it's kinda hard to do that. And there's no way I'm keeping the standard manifold!

Just out of interest, how do you find the 606 with a hx35?
And what's your reason for going compound rather than vgt?

Dissasembled before completion, but lag to 2,500k at least I recons.

Factory turbo doesn't spool until 1,500k which is bad enough, anyway compounding into the factory turbo is the easiest/cheapest/only way to get no smoke with my EDC pump/7.5's.

I just bought a 'Borg Warner K29' I hope thats's not too outdated and laggy, it's from a Scania.. mwahahah

It's all still being hand-u-factured in my shed as per my w202 wagon build thread mate. Regarding HX35, best option is find a 9cm2 exhaust housing one for best repsonse and add an external wastegate so emp doesn't hold back power at high revs. Compounding with factory kkk high pressure turbo will give same as stock spool time which is 1500rpm-ish without any VNT grubbins.

Regarding compounding: spool from 1500rpm and 45psi at the manifold, so 4-500hp with no smoke from 8mm dieselmeken elements, nuff said. Exhaust pipe work is a ball ache that's the only drawback, but who wouldn't!
