Temp goes up under boost. - TurboTim - 09-28-2014

While cruising down the freeway, if I do a pull from say 70-100 my temp guage will peg out hot. It drops back down right away but are these cooling systems just the weak or do I have something else going on. Im actually amazed at how quickly it heats up. I do have a big FMIC so I am sure that doesnt help. This has been like this for some time so I am not terribly worried its just now that I have 8mm elements it does it fairly quick. I also have a Beru radiator. This is on my 603 in a SDL.

Check your waterpump for any damages, i had same promblem and my waterpumps wing was cut in half Big Grin so the coolant cycle was too slow. But you have 603 engine and those all have cast iron wing in the waterpump if i remember right, but its possible crack it too. Also check your thermostat that it opens

How about EGT?

RE: Temp goes up under boost. - TurboTim - 09-28-2014

Waterpump is a newer Napa pump. Probably 6 months old. I was going to replace the thermostat anyways just to see what happens. My EGT will eventually hit 700c or 1300f but not before the engine gets too hot.

87 603 head gaskets are turds.

I've seen this on some stock 603/602 customer cars with high milage. Usually its the cylinder head with corrosion near the water jackets allowing some combustion gasses to sneak by the headgasket and get into the cooling system. Easy test with a chemical block check.

Thermostat fixed it. Seemed like a headgasket though.

That got me thinking though, does anyone actually hear there clutch fan work because I have never really heard mine. I thought about replacing mine. It does spin freely and the fan rotates. I just have never heard the roar of the fan when it got hot.

No, never heard my fan. Your engine shouldn't overheat in the conditions you described if your fan were not even installed.

And I for the most part agree but my F350 pickup if I have the AC on and am towing my boat, that thing will never shut off, even when going down the freeway at 70mph

I should also add that my Talon with the big FMIC that the electric fans have to run constantly or it will really overheat especially on the freeway. I do have a FMIC on my benz so maybe it should be running.

You got an FMIC in there and still had room for the condenser? Nice.

RE: Temp goes up under boost. - TurboTim - 09-29-2014

Yeah it actually fits pretty well. I wish I would have went bigger though and I probably will. I didnt even have to cut anything around the bumper area. I can post pics.

I ordered some of that Toyota clutch fan fluid and I am going to try rebuilding mine.
