OM606.962 into M-class - 50harleyrider - 01-28-2016

It seems the G wagons are the popular diesel swaps for the North American guys where diesels weren't available. Can someone tell me why the ML class aren't popular swap SUV cars? I would think since ML cars were available in the US in the same years as the W210 diesels, and my research has shown the AWD 722.6xx found in the 98-05 ML gassers would bolt right up to the OM with a bellhousing and torque converter from the w210, why this isn't a popular swap. With the aftermarket ecu and tcu available on this forum, it shouldn't be that difficult. Maybe the inline OM is too long for this chassis which isn't shaped like a box as the G-wagons are. The used ML cars I've seen in Ebay, etc aren't too expensive so why not? The G-wagons are pricey even with the gas engines.

I'm pretty sure the ML engine bay won't hold an I6 engine.
The W210 barely held the OM606. After the MY2000 cosmetic refresh, the lowered hood precluded the continuation of the OM606.

The 605 would certainly fit lenght wise though, they actually came with a 270 CDI OM612 stock. Not so sure about a 606 though. A major issue is that the 4 wheel drive system relies on the traction control since all 3 differentials are open, not lockable or LSD. Whatever you change the traction control must work otherwise you won't have much traction   Tongue

I could even bet that the OM612 engine mounts would place the OM605 perfectly   Big Grin

Personally I would get a 270 cdi and tune that instead but you don't have them in the states...

Yeah, I figured the length of the om606 would preclude putting it in an ML. I might even have some issues getting it shoe horned into The 97 F-150. I'll sure try as I really like the 97 and later F150 and I have one paid for. I may have to go with an F250 to get the room I need although I don't like the fuel mileage hit a 1500 pound heavier truck would yield. A V6 diesel would be a better option. I really like the inherent smoothness of an inline engine though, doggonit. Again, no good candidates available stateside though or I would already have bought a 5 cylinder TDI. Thanks for the input guys.

Awesome. The 606 doesn't fit on a w202 or a w201 but Hooblah and myself did it. Just have to get creative with the grinder.

4x4 with open diffs would be good on a road going car though. An STD 606 one..
