No need for blow off valve on diesels

RE: BOV for om617a - 97e300 - 03-24-2016

wrong section.

Well the no need for blow off valves on diesels isn't totally correct. If you would put a big charger on it, such as a hx40, I guarentee it would surge while letting off under hard throttle, which can be prevented with a blowoff valve. But that just protects the turbo, it's not really needed

Like mfsuper said. When you do example burnout and let the throttle off, it will surge pretty badly with bigger turbo so bov isn't totally useless.. But many would put it just for the sound of it, not to protect the turbo Big Grin

And how are you guys setting up said BOV since there is no vacuum source?

If it is really needed, you can get vacuum from the vacuum circuit and swith it with a solenoid, while you can control the solenoid with a switch at the throttle pedal.

It is possible, but a bit more complicated...

RE: BOV for om617a - TurboTim - 06-11-2016

....Yeah you let me know how that works....

The better way I thought about doing but never tried since not really needed anyways was to just use EGP for the control line to just hold it shut.

Something like this Smile

RE: BOV for om617a - TurboTim - 06-12-2016

So what happens if you partially let off gas. Turbo still fluttering there.

RE: BOV for om617a - TurboTim - 06-12-2016

I do like the picture though!

RE: BOV for om617a - TurboTim - 06-12-2016

You know you want boost pressure to close the valve when on throttle though so you may want to add more stuff to your picture.

RE: BOV for om617a - MFSuper90 - 06-12-2016

Most guys use a control that has boost input on one side, and EGP on the other. Therefore when you chop the throttle boost overcomes EGP and opens the BOV.

I've never used one, but I've read several guys on comp D are using them

Feel free to modify it  Big Grin
