OM642 swap into W463 - AlpinaM30B35 - 11-09-2016

Has anyone successfully swapped a Om642 using either the stock ECU or a standalone?

One of my neighbors has a 2006 W463 that has an OM642 swapped in and bolted up to the transmission but not wired at all. I guess the shop only managed to get it in but could not get ANY of the electronics sorted.

Any insight would be appreciated, he wants it be fully functional with ABS/ASR and trans etc...

If we can't get it sorted we are just going to swap in a OM606

you could always go with something like this

i'd imagine it would be easier to get running than trying to splice the stock wiring, into existing loom.

That motor did come in the G in 2006-2009.  What motor came with this G originally?  If gas, then there will be many other issues too, including emissions equipment, gas tank, glow plug system.  The list will go on and on.  Oh, and then there is the drive authorization system.

I emailed body logic a few days ago and am waiting to hear back. This was a fully functional G500 V8 that they decided to do a diesel swap on.

I am thinking that getting all the computers and immobilizer from a G320 may be the best route.

The bell housing pattern between the OM606 and V6 are completely different right?

This is really not that big of a deal. Just virgin the diesel ecu. Get the wiring straight on the body side harness to the correct pinout and marry the ecu to the immobilizer with star.

Alright well the owner does not want to keep the OM642, but instead go to a mechanical 7.5mm 606. What would be the best route for the transmission/engine sensors to attempt to retain OEM functionality of all the other systems?

RE: OM642 swap into W463 - AlanMcR - 11-12-2016

Getting a mechanical OM606 to work with the rest of the electronics is a pipe dream. There is a stand-alone 722.6 transmission controller, but it won't talk to any of the rest of the electronics, including the instrument cluster.

The OM642 idea is hard, but at least doable. At least that combination was made to work with factory parts.

No doubt about that, I had the same discussion with the owner today. He finally agreed that the 642 is the best route to take to even have a chance at full functionality.

He also informed me that he has a OEM 2006 G320cdi ecu. I believe since they are both 2006 MY and that the model was offered by Mercedes in Europe that it should be doable.
