Thoughts on adding an Oil temp gauge?
Thoughts on adding an Oil temp gauge?
I got a gauge holder that holds 3 gauges I have a VDO EGT and boost gauge so I still have a hole to fill! I was thinking oil temp gauge any thoughts?
where should I mount the temp sensor? In the VW and Porsche crowd they use the oil drain pan bolt. I want to see the temp before the oil cooler?
I got this gauge mount out of a box so I don't know where it came from it has an audi/vw part number?
But I think it will fit in perfect with a few more mods its the right height and width with the right contour on the outer edges! its a snug fit right at the moment I need to trim the console a very little bit to finish it but it tips the gauges towards the driver witch is nice!
I would add an Exhaust Manifold Pressure gauge.
Thats a good idea! never though of that.
Here is the part number I don't know what its from? I got it from a neighbor that got it at a swap meet with some misc gauges
it reads MADE IN GERMANY VW AUDI WET 855 863 321
I looked all over eBay and Google and this is all I found thow http://www.worldimpex.com/parts/genuine-...01325.html
If you figure out what it came from let us know!!!! I would also like to know so I can look at the junk yards for some more!

I think it is a good idea to know oil temp but EGT's are right up there too, I am building a test I/P (instrument panel) for tunning with and it will have 8 lab level "K" type trindicators. After I am safe with the tune I will only have a single EGT, I will look at every cylinder.
I already have a boost and EGT gauge I'm just trying to figure out what to put in the last hole I'm leaning towards a drive pressure gauge but haven't made my mine up and ordered one yet!
On our race car we have compressor tach's, as we do changes to the setup or tune we can see when the turbos come in. I have a VDO boost gauge in my SD that I'm going to put in the CD but I would like to make all the gauges the same that I add, I like the clean dash panel look you guys have done.
I had to remove the ash tray and use a dreamal tool to cut some of the console behind the ash tray away but it looks good! there's a small gap between the panel and the radio but a small rubber strip will fill it!
I will take a new pic of it today
I still have no idea what this came out of I'll keep looking? Ive looked at the mk1 gti but it seems to be different?
I decided on an oil temp gauge for the time being as my oil pressure drops low when it is really warm out side and my oil cooler is two small!
I posted this up on my local VW/Audi Forum. Here is what they had to say:
Yup, looks like the lower gauge panel that came with the...
MK1 Golf/Rabbit GTI
MK1 Golf/Rabbit Convertible
They had either a combination of Volt/Clock/Bar or Volt/Temp/Bar usually.
It was mounted in front of the shifter, above the hole cubby, or some models, tape holder, and under the climate controls.

thanks I'll keep looking in he yards for another one! On eBay the mk1 console looks different flatter and more square with out the gauges being tipped towards the driver? I didn't modify this part to fit either I'll try and mount my 3rd gauge this weekend and take a better pic showing how well it fits now!!!
I haven't mount my 3rd gauge yet but I have an oil temp gauge I noticed my oil pressure is affected a good amount when it's really hot so I'm going to install a larger oil cooler/rad off a 300d once I locate a good one with a fan shroud and fan clutch
cruising at 75 mph for a while it starts getting warm 220* and my oil gauge needle drops to the middle of it's range at idle when hot 1.5 bar instead of almost 2bar when in normal operating temps
I was thinking that would be a nice gauge to have.... then turbo RPM
neat looks expensive!

I found it here. you will most likely have to call and give them the part number to see if it is still available.
