this is a test of my idea. this post will be a list of things people are trying to find in the junkyard, and a bounty for them. if you find the thing and pull it, the person who posted it pays the bounty. if this works out it could be good, so don't be a dick and fuck it up for everyone.

if you want to add an item to the list, post here and i will edit the OP. if you have an item in the list this is a commitment - if you don't pay up you will get a whoopin. this thread can also be used for discussion of how to best execute this whole idea.

I pulled a whole 87td motor/trans sunday.

I do not want to sell much of it, I drive and 87tdt as my daily driver.
I plan on using some of the parts NOW:
Injectors to rebuild with monark nozzles.
Intake to cut/mount inlet from FMIC.
IP to make a 606 hybrid (6mm)

Trans is going to a friend, so he has no downtime with his 87tdt rebuild. He is compensating me by building his trans up for me I buy parts (hello sl600 bands etc)

What I dont need:
All accessories can go: make offers.
Turbo (CA w/recirculation valve)
Turbo Mani
I put the downpipe in the trash today, if someone wants it (cut as in picture I will ship at shipping cost only)

I am looking for the elusive, but sought after W115 intake manifold from a 300D Turbo, 1975-76'. I am willing to pay $85 (that includes S+H). I am assuming S+H should not exceed $10.00. I don't have the part # handy, but it should be a direct bolt up to the 617.952 engine for my 1985 MB 300D Turbo. Also looking for the W116 exhaust manifold that has NO EGR to bolt up to my engine (I think it came off the 1978+79). Offering $90 (that includes S+H) as I assume the extra weight will require more postage. Anyone out there? PM or reply to thread. BTW -- Great idea for the junkyard exchange / parts locater. Also, looking for the splined yoke that goes on the back of the transmission that connects to the flex plate. Mine came loose after the nut spun off. Does anyone know the MB Part number? and the Part number for the upgraded nut? (the one that does not need the special MB socket?) Thanks.

I will take a picture of mine. I think the 1985 is different than the others, but not sure. Give me a few hours to post a picture.

Thanks,

Mark
Here are some pictures. Does anyone know the part number? The dealer won't tell me the part number unless I buy the part. WTF
It is 101 F today in sunny South Carolina, with a heat index at 108! I really want to avoid going to Pull-a-Part.

I was just out pulling apart the flex disc. The female spline part I have is held by a locknut that has 4 slots in it. The locknut is also pinned over. Like it has been folded in place with a chisel or some such.
I don't have anyway to remove that locknut. And I hate to pull that part off unless you actually are going to buy it.
It's right at 100 here too Wink

I believe there are a number of pic's on this forum, especially by Forced Induction as he had this type of intake manifold.
I would hang tight then, as I won't transfer my laziness and desire to avoid sweating like crazy since the junkyard will offer the same thing, except I will have to invest an hour or so. THANKS for actually looking into it. I thought you were in Ill.? That hot there too?

So, that is a non-turbo manifold.

There was no stock W115 turbo 300 in the US (or anywhere?).

That may be true. This is what was posted on this forum. It was listed as an intake for a 300D, W115. I may have wrongly assumed it was a turbo. If so, sorry about that. I have the casting number / part number written down somewhere.

So I am corrected, are you saying there was no such thing as a W115 300D Turbo?

I too need the same intake and exhaust manifolds as Greazzer, but I am *not* willing to have them shipped to me, because I want to inspect them before I buy them. If you live anywhere west of the Cascades and north of Eugene, Oregon, and have the following:

Intake manifold from a 1974-76 300D
<strikethrough>Intake manifold from a 1977-81 300D, SD, or SDL with no EGR</strikethrough>
<strikethrough>Exhaust manifold from a 1977-81 300D, SD, or SDL with no EGR</strikethrough>

***note: don't need the 1977-81 manifolds any more, I found a pair in a local pull'n'pray***

I will, if when I inspect them I find that they are acceptable, pay a $100 bounty ($200 for both) in addition to whatever it cost you to obtain them from a strip lot (show me the receipts), up to a maximum of $150 each. I insist that the intake manifold be cleaned up (i.e., spray it down with brake cleaner or carb cleaner or a pressure washer) and the exhaust manifold also be cleaned up (Naval Jelly on the exterior, oven cleaner on the interior piping, rinsed out with either water and compressed air or, better, brake cleaner spray) before I see them.

The bounty I was offering on the W123 manifolds #2 and #3, above, is hereby cancelled. Found 'em today in a local pull'n'pray. Still would like to get a 1974-76 300 D (W115) manifold though.

I picked up an extra non-EGR turbo W123 intake manifold, in case anybody needs one. PM me if you do. I might keep it though, for it might be possible to cut'n'weld the two together to achieve a Frankenmanifold with a snout of sorts.

W124 1987 300TD wagon, for sale, $1000 (some assembly required).

ah ok you want a few inches of the downpipe too? I think i have one somewhere.

I might have time this weekend to pull those squirters. I dont think cutting the block up is to easy to ship all the way there for a jig

Yep, it's the few inches of downpipe that I REALLY need, since the turbo engine my friend and I pulled didn't have a downpipe... A v-band clamp is also needed, the turbo +manifold assembly I do have is missing one.

What's wrong with the block? My friend keeps telling me to get a quote for truck freight on it, I keep telling him the block likely suffered massive trauma or some such...

Success ! Finally got the exhaust manifold without EGR. There is also a non-EGR intake, but not the elusive W115. This came from a 1979 300SD, W116, part/casting # 617 142 0601. I got the exhaust manifold, which I have been trying to get for abour 6 months, for under $20. I also got a trunk lid and hood, very light --aluminum or at least aluminum alloy of some sorts. No dents or scratches, just clear coat popping off. Brackets are slightly different for the hood. Hope it fits. Either need to get the original brackets from the junkyard or modify the hood. Got everything for under $80! However, I paid dearly because of the heat. Must have lost 5 pounds just sweating like crazy being outside for an hour or so.

Here are some pictures.

So, now, just looking for a 75 or 76 W115 intake. Any one interested in a 1979 non-EGR intake manifold?

I was about to quit myself. I failed to bring all the right tools, but thankfully the guy next to me loaned me a few wrenches.
I will put this out there again: Will a 1979 SD hood and trunk lid (aluminum) fit a W123, 1985 MB 300D ? I don't think so, but I do not have the courage to do a mock up to see. I think the aluminum is a few inches too big. It would have been nice, however. Trunk lid at 17 1/2 pounds and hood at 34 pounds, or both at slightly above 50 pounds. I think I will pick up the intake manifold (no EGR) tomorrow since it is alreay out of the car. I guess the carbon fiber R&D is still back on. Thanks.

The 79sd is a w116 body, right? Not a w123 so that's the tip off that the hood/trunk aren't the same. But I know so very little about all these models.

No, you're right. They are different. I did a mock-up and the W116 is bigger and has a different shape. So, either 50 pounds of aluminum or a return or a sale. Anyone interesed in a sale?

Here is my exhaust manifold, NON EGR from W116 1979 300SD. Just about 12 hours with electrolysis. Looks almost new to me. It took a while to find one, but well worth the wait. Under $20.00 at Pull-a-Part-- I think I am going to get it coated by Jet-Hot, maybe red, and that should run about $200 or so with shipping.

I have the NON EGR intake manifold for sale, $40.00 plus shipping. I am sill looking for the W115 intake manifold, however.

Not sure what is ultimately cheaper or not, but you are still left with an exhaust manifold that is in the same exact boat as you started, so not sure what can be accomplished with a custom exhaust manifold. I would like to see one that is in actual use on a W123. Maybe the final costs of Jet Hot will be cheaper as the size of the manifold is generally smaller than US makes' V-8's, I'll see. However, assuming all the vendor's claims are accurate, the ceramic coating supposedly removes and dissiaptes a lot of heat, et cet, which no custom or non-custom header can do unless the material is modified.

I am a real fan of electrolysis -- just put the part in a non-metal container and turn it on. Once the rust / bubbles pretty much stop, the rust is gone and all you need to do is rinse it off. Sure beats sanding or sand blasting, et cet.

I am in the process of building a new mani for my 603 so far I have spent just over 200$ in materials: waterjet flanges 603/gt2359v, and 7 mandrel U bends.

Welding will be "per hour" and I estimate there will be ~4 hours.

As I am making this one from mild steel it will then be ceramic coated and have an end cost of ~700$

I keep wondering why I have not just gotten a euro mani and made an adapter, imho stick to your plan Greazzer.

Hey -- any pictures ?

The Jet Hot place is about 2 hours from sunny Columbia, SC, so I think I am going to do a very short road trip to see the facility. I will post my findings ... maybe that will help some folks or get members of the forum a discount.

Racerxoffl -- even at $700 that still sounds like a good deal since $200 or so will be for the coating, so the manifold sounds to be around $500. With all that fab, sounds like you got a good place to work with. Not sure where one could get alot of welding, fab, et cet for around $200 unless you had your own shop or had a "buddy" somewhere. Heck, getting your oil changed and a brake job costs $200 these days.

Even the NON-EGR options, W116 or W116 for intake are somewhat pricey UNLESS you can find one at the junkyard because it looks like the going rate is at least $100 plus shipping, so the mark-up appears to be pretty high since the junkyards are charging under $20 for the same part. I guess the finders fee is X5 Plus....

Now that this thread is completely jacked;

I have been using this fab guy for years, from m104 parts to wall tv mounts, throw in the odd glass/steel desk you name it. He is slammed these days making parts for backdraft racing their shop is also nearby. The flanges are at work in the wagon at the moment I'll snap some pics and post a thread soon. I just hate admitting how slow I am at these projects. My spare set of C32 heads have been going to the porting shop for the last 3 months (still on a shelf in the garage) while the C32 has a "blown head gasket" yet unidirectional leak of oil into coolant (I suspect the water oil cooler) but if the gasket is thrashed from the leaky water IC oh well. I just refuse to do "14 hours" of labor (alldata) for 45$ in parts. So I am porting an polishing (over-sized exhaust valves?) and getting something from all that labor.

I'll probably be heading to one of the yards soon so if somebody needs something I can take a look. I'm looking for a head for my 603... it decided to give in to peer pressure and crack. Maybe I'll luck out and just find a 606 complete...

'98 E300 Turbo "Juliette" - Brabus wheels and almost all the options a w210 could have
'87 300D Turbo "Roxanne" - #22 head - 400E brakes - EGR Delete - 17" Staggered AMG 5 spoke rims from CLK500 - 5 Spd manual
2007 Chevy 2500HD CCSB Duramax with about 400-500 rwhp depending on the tune I use Big Grin
1983 300D Silver Exterior/Black inside - Sold and will be missed, may we never meet in a PnP.

I'm looking for just the lift pump off of a 617mw IP.
Most I would really want to pay is $30-35 shipped.

3x - 10mm nuts hold it to the IP and then a couple other banjo bolts need removed from the fuel filter housing.

Rusted out beat down 300d turbo 82' -- RIP
Nice body, tons of ridiculous mechanical issues - 300d turbo 82' /motor 85'

(04-08-2011, 04:18 PM)willbhere4u Will.... couple hundred$....W126 ?280se euro? manual transmission peddle set with clutch and break peddle
...you are aware that cutting a tab off of the W123 pedalset makes it totally compatible with the W126, right? I understand if you are shooting for one with a 126 part #, but in case you aren't, it's very easy to modify the W123 set... at least so I have read.

If you want to buy a W126 pedalset, I can put you in touch with a guy who may still have one.
