Sorry to be that newb that just shows up to pick brains, but I really need some help.
Vehicle/engine
W460 g wagen
'83 om617.952 non-California engine, unknown mileage, I think around 200k, donor car odo was broke at 183k miles
Symptoms
Missing on cylinder 1
Hard nailing cylinder 3
Shaking at idle, only after 20 seconds of running, smooth at first
Low power
Gray smoke at idle
Hard to start when cold
Clear fuel filter gets almost empty within a few seconds of startup, splashing and frothy looking fuel in there, very clean though.
Leaky primer pump
Leaking Delivery valve cylinder 1
Little output at cylinder 1 injector line
Bubbly fuel comes out of drip tube when pumping primer during IP timing check
Will not start on first attempt after running, even if just for a couple minutes
Fires up on first crank after it has sat awhile
Foul smelling exhaust

Already done:
Both Fuel filters, not the strainer yet
Rebuilt/balanced injectors with monark nozzles
IP timing set to 24* BTDC
New fuel line from tank to lift pump
Cleaned Alda banjo bolt
Valves adjusted
Compression check 290-340 all cylinders (3 was lowest)
Great oil pressure
Some blow by, not excessive
Thermostat/water pump
New beru glow plugs, reamed out carbon
Egr deleted
Checked with gas cap off, no change.
Loosen injector 1 line, no change, very little fuel present
Loosen injector 3 line, nailing goes away
All others cause more missing/shaking
diesel purge
Seems like it is starving for fuel, maybe lift pump
What now?
Sounds to me like you have a fuel starving issue or air in the system. To eliminate this I would bypass the tank and run it off a jug, both supply and return in the jug to see what is happening. Do you have the tank vented? Return line all the way to the bottom of the tank?

Did you fix the delivery valves? That is much easier than an engine change I would say. (torque wrench necessary)
Overflow valve only needs to be checked, no need to buy a new one.
take it out, clean it, check length of spring (26mm I believe, if too short stretch it)
If it doesn´t get better after delivery valves and overflow valve fixed change injectors with your spare engine, then report back
