don’t forget that some transmissions are for dual mass flywheels and some are not (long and short nose). DMFW are much thicker.

Axel606 for the right flywheel for a 6-speed merc box.
I think Axel606 is extremely knowledgeable on all the different 606/clutch/flywheel/5 or 6 speed combinations, and he replies with good info.
I was fascinated to learn there are merc 6 speeds that bolt directly to the 606 that are actually NSG 370s - that happens to be the same 6 speed that came stock in the JK Wrangler.... hmm.
Both of the following are NSG 370s
711.651 is a 6 speed from a sprinter,
716.651 is a 6 speed from a C/E class
Both of the following are NSG 400s
711.660 sprinter
716.660 C/E class
I like the idea of no engine->trans adapter, saving 1-2 inches in total length for the conversion.

The next question is were do you find a standard bellhousing to fit the 606? In the installation in the Toyota 4runner as well as in the Cherokee the Merc flywheel sets to far forward to work with the Toyota or Cherokee clutch position in the stock bellhousing of both cars.
In the Cherokee I used the Merc flexplate to start the engine with the stock starter an then had an adapter made to space a custom standard flywheel I had made by Wilcap in Calif. with no ring gear to bolt the GM clutch to.
I had thought to do the same thing with the 4runner with a Merc standard flywheel with the ring gear removed to save the cost of having another custom flywheel made, being it would have the same bolt pattern as the 606 engine.
My other option is to use the Toyota V-6 flywheel and have it redrilled to the Merc 606 pattern and remove the ring gear.
Decisions decisions!!!!!!!!

My understanding is that Merc transmissions all have integrated bellhousings, so you can't buy just a bellhousing that will fit directly onto the 606. That's why I'd be interested in using the Merc NSG 370s - they bolt right up to the 606, solving all the problems there. I'd love to see a Jeep NSG 370 next to a Merc one so I can see the output end of both transmissions to see how different and interchangeable they are, for bolting on the transfer case.

The G Wagon also came with the 606 Turbo, mated to a 5 speed.
I don't think it ever came with a 6 speed.
