w202 om605 daily drifter
Hello, finaly found a car suitable to have abit of practice in. Had money saved for a lexus is200, was all set on one untill a chap in work said he knew where there was a c250td forsale, went and looked at it on boxing day.
its a merc c250td, completely standard, mot till may, no tax, and needs a rear subframe as its cracked, got it for £250 so cant complain
engine runs like new, and pulls right and well aswell, manual, full electrics, pity its green but lol
New subframe
got the rear subframe out, didnt go easy
and the reason its getting a new subframe, its just a slight crack
how the subframe sits compared to the old one
rear subframe is finaly ready to be bolted back onto the car, couple new arms and bushes, 4 new main subframe bushes and the diff has been welded, some night this week when its dry gonna get it into her and see how she goes
a photo of it all back together beside the brothers bm 316/323 project
got new wheels and lowered it
its now being used as my daily driver, it goes well but need to do something about the throttle, very slow response and the pedal is way to long
as been other bits of work gone into it, when it cracked the subframe it pulled the rear arb mount off the boot floor, so got it patched and all welded back solid, along with 2 new rear droplinks, no rattles from the rear end now
it also had mercedes SLS system, its intended to raise the car up at the rear when you have people in the back, it only worked on one side and was hard as the road, so got two standard rear shocks and have done away with the system
since im still waiting for a few more bits to arrive, couple of us sprayed the merc
satin black and looks a hell of alot better imo
got all the wiring sorted out this weekend, first off sorted out the windows, was really pissing me off that only the rear two worked, and drivers only went down an inch
got the trim below the front lights sprayed black, rear spoiler is in primer and will be sprayed black shortly, and got the merc badge on the back of her again.
she was pron to heating abit when it was sideways, so the two front fans are now wired into 2 swtichs, also got a resistor and switch wired into the pump wiring, it now has a nice wee puff of black smoke, and is loving 3rd gear now, before it was just fit to mange 3rd
nothing exciting to photograph as its mostly wiring, but quiet pleased with the switch panel
Loving the murder black, that subframe looks like its been gas-axed off!
If you move the throttle cable clevis nearer to its pivot on the throttle potentiometer on the NSF inner wing, then the throttle will react quicker, if that makes sense..
cheers, yeh thats what happens when someone trys to tow a transit full off tools and other stuff, with a trailer behind it and 2 tonne of bricks on that, she seen a hard life before i got it
yeh that makes sense, i was gonna move it closer on the throttle pedal but the potentionmeter is alot easier got at
Find it on google, Peach parts probs, pins 5 & 6 on the IP loom IIRC, I'll add the picture I have from the tutorial later if you remind me..
4k ohms across them.
I'm making a loom with >15psi pressure switch, max-throttle switch and arming switch on the dash so you only get more fuel (max rack) when these conditions are met, which is only when you want it really..
Edit: found the link..
http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/Thre...c-governor
yeh exactly like hario said, only i run mine with a potentiometer and have it just at the point where it is starting to rev itself, but i dont mind black smoke at all, not only that with the resistor on all the time, you getting a wee bit more boost, and its kicking in earlier and holding full boost longer, ideal for what i need it for
couple updates, its through its yearly mot, first time aswell, so got coilovers into it last monday, and its was a wee bit to low, so had to raise it abit at the front so i could turn, drove it like this for 2 days first but
and made a new exhaust for it, need to get it onto it this weekend
got abit of work done tonight still waiting on the lathe boys in work to turn my spacers, hopefully next week ill have them home
first got rid of the egr and cleaned the intakes
next was trying to cure my overheating issues, so aircon rad has been removed, was fucked anyway, pump is still in place but will sort that out another time, put the twin fans back in just incase it does start to heat, also blew out the rad, the about of shite that came out of it was unreal,
and just to help the looks, all the purple is gone and the chrome is back, looks better imo, got bored of the purple very quickly
currently its running on about 4 1/2 cylinders, one of the pre chambers has come loose, should hopefully have the tools needed for that tomorrow, and get the diff welded tomorrow aswell
didn't manage to get the diff welded today, spent this morning putting my brothers bm 323 back together, then got the merc running on all 5 cylinders again, took it a good run and its not lifting the temperature hand either, success
also got my hydro mounted, needs connected up but forgot to get t pieces on friday
like the idea of taking the air con rad out and keeping the twin fan set up. my air con has never worked and i was thinking of doing this myself and eventually taking out the compressor too..
did you do the mod on the throttle potentiometer as mine is very very slow to react to the throttle, also with the egr did you just blank it off, does it not throw up any errors...!!
cheers
ill be getting rid of the compressor at some stage aswell, atm i have just got rid of the pipes and rad
it does help with throttle response, but i have noticed it is slower at returning to idle when its turned on
egr i just put a blanking plate in, and a bolt in the end of the vac line going to the top of it, hasn't thrown up any errors so far
bit of an update, i now have a water temperature gauge and exhaust gas temperature gauge to go into the car, i was wondering about oil pressure, is there anywhere one these engine you can put a sensor to read oil pressure?
ill have a look arround tomorrow for it and see what thread they are, cheers
on other news, finaly got my spacers made, big thanks to a work mate who started after work to finish turning the last one so i could machine it
started with these after they where turned
alot of this happened
and ended up with these, 60mm for the rear and 20mm for the front
a mates coming over this weekend, going to get the hydro handbrake working and the diff back into it, hopefully if i get the bolts spacers will be on aswell
Sweet, how does the hydraulic master cylinder hand brake not interfere with the original hydraulic foot master cylinder operation?
FYI: When you remove the AC compressor, (which you need to do for IC pipework clearance when you fit a big one), this is the shorter belt that you will need:
http://www.camskill.co.uk/m28b0s2592p146...-_6PK2135_
Model 6PK2135 (6-rib 2135mm length)
I just removed my AC compressor, forgot to load the tensioner before measuring the belt length and had to send one back so I thoguth I'd share the correct one.
Regards,
ah cheers for the info hario, saves me alot of hassle that
i dont know exactly but it works perfectly fine, have it fitted and if the bleed screws would of screwed out it would be braking like normaly, could only bleed it to the rubber pipes and must still be abit of air in the system, so have a job for this weekend sorting that out
bit more work done past couple of days, new mintex disc's and pad's all round, fronts where warped and rears where done, also rebuilt my two rear calipers, with 2 new bleed nipples, got them bleed up right and the handbrake is alot firmer now, haven't tried it but it should lock now
got a spacer on one side today, safe to say its gonna be wide
arch has been pulled, its resting on its suspension and moving, clearing atm but needs abit more work before it goes on the road
also really need to get rid of the 55 profile tyres, so getting 195/45's for it end of this week
then set about fitting two more gauges, water temp and exhaust gas temp gauges
water temp sender
exhaust gas temp sender, excuse the dodgy welding, it wouldn't weld for me at all, but its sealing so all's good
the three gauges, water temp, egt and boost, in 3 new pod's
diff is welded just not in the car yet, need to test drive it with the spacers on to make sure they are ok, so tomorrow ill get the spacers on, hopefully tyres and have it out of the shed for first time in a week
starting to get parts ready to tune this
just recieved my om602 pump yesturday, saving now for a turbo, 7.5mm elements and probaly a clutch as mines slipping atm
this will be coming off the road shortly so i can start working on it
also going a different way from holset, have a garret gt35 coming, going to try it and see how it goes
Sweet, regarding elements, these are the nearest people to us (UK) who quoted for element fit and balance http://www.dieselpumpuk.com/
I really like / want your sheeting wheel!, I take it no issues with the MOT despite the airbag was removed??
H.
ah i can fit them, and have a local chap willing to balance them, cheers
i didnt have it in for mot, but i had no airbag or abs lights and it still passed
my turbo and pump have arrived, a gt35 and a manual pump off a om602
so as off friday it is off the road, have an old xsara estate to run about in, means i can now get this thing built without worrying about driving it everyday, will be entering ni drift ama next year
have got abit more done to this recently, now have it fully striped inside, wiring and all is gone, going to wire in just what is needed, as its goin back to a manual pump it wont need alot, also got the turbo mounted today, its a tight squeeze in there
going to be starting on some of the wiring this week, going to make a new loom for it as it seems the easiest way todo it
finaly got abit more done, have the manifold adaptor completely finished, going to skim both flanges in work, also have the egt sensor fitted, downpipe is started, but cant go any further until i get the standard exhaust off, and have the oil feed pipe done
fuel pump is very nearly finished, hope to get it mounted over the christmas holidays, also got a intercooler, it was cheap so will do untill i get a bigger one
@Kalti i wont be using any form af alda atm. it is off a no turbo but will just keep it revving all the time
Havent had alot of time to get this finished. Have got the turbo setup finished apart from the piping, oil ffed and return is done, exhaust and wastegate is all mounted and finished
I did manage to get the pump on but its got the electronic bit on the back so cant get the oil cooler mounted. But will hopefully get it blanked off this weekend. Have all the electrical side got so hopefully a weekend with a couple of mates will get it mostly all done.
Mate I'm pretty sure you can get your hand down the side of the block with the exhaust manifold in place to remove the oil feed, its a compression fitting and not too tight IIRC.
You could fit the oil filter housing from an OM606 which has excternal oil cooler rather than that water/oil exchanger to get clearance for the 602 pump, as you may need an oil cooler at some point anyway due to drift..
cheers hario. You wouldnt happen to know what size they are off the top of your head lol
if not will get them messured up and order two, will solve alot of isues. Already have an oil cooler just need a way to conect it. It was on our 205 rally car before but it didnt need to so was removed

been very lazy with photos and updates recently, mostly because ive been to busy at work to really get alot done on it.
But i finally have updates
on the wiring side, it was 90% done, untill the glow pluug relay quit, so going to wire them so each one has its own relay. All the dash gauges are working, apart from the revs, have yet to get the signal wire wired up to it.
Took the plung and the wastegate pipe is now though the bonnet
the big news though, is that its finally started, first time since last september when i took the standard turbo off, happy to hear it running finally.

Cheers, yeh i cant wait to see it going either, its getting very close, but going to take alot of setting up
But its getting closer, spent today working at it again, have the boost pipes done just need jubilie clips for them all, can now stop it from inside, tractor style with a pull to stop lever. Also got the kill switch mounted and a couple more bits wiried up.
Yeh im getting around to it, its all gonna need a good tidy up at some point so will do it all then
Got the seat mounted this week aswell, and started it again today, but its blowing smoke out the number 2 intake valves, it never done this the last time it was running, im thinking its a slightly sticky valve but was wondering if anyone else has any ideas? The timing between crank and cam is good, pump is abit to advance as its still got diesel knock.
Pumped up lifter. Happened to me, I changed the oil and let it thoroughly warm up and it eventually cleared itself after 5-10 minutes idling. Happened to the 606 belonging to my friend Hugh-F also.
This is what a pumped uplifter looked like when it happened to me.

cheers for the replies guys. So it should hopefully clear itself after its let get up to running tempature and left running for a while, it has been sitting for a good 7 months before it was started?
Have been very slow with updates on this, but i am getting very very close to getting it tested, finaly down to the smaller jobs now
will do a proper update later on this week when i hopefully have it driving under its own power, first time since last september
finnaly getting around to doing an update, car is very close to being ready to test, few minor jobs todo, get the fuel tank and pump mounted and its ready
so first up, have a seat mounted
got my new boot floor in, makes it easy to change the diff at the track
got the boot latches on
the i started on the engine again, first up was sorting my oil cooler plate, had a slight leak, got it welded up and i machined it flat in work
after a few hours of trying to figure out the throttle, decided its to much of a head ache to use the standard lever, so taking it from the other side now
heater plug wiring all in place
got all the gauges wired up finally, now have, boost, egt, oil pressure, oil temp, water temp and a rev counter, oil and rev counter are in the main dash
then i finished up my exhaust 3" stack through the bonnet
also have my fuel tank welded, just waiting for two fittings and it can go into the car, hope to have it running, fully built next weekend, then its time to get the pump setup and more boost
Cheers
Finally have it running, still a few leaks to sort out
