speedohealer on w124
hello someone is using speedohealer on w124?how hard is to put the speedometer whork right?
There's already a topic about the Speedohealer. You can use it with the rear ABS-Sensor combined with a lm1815 for example or use the square wave signal from the ABS control unit behind the battery. The signal from this has to be amplified because it's to low for the speedohealer by just using a transistor and two resistors.
In any w124 other than the 400E/500E E420/E500 the speedometer is a mechanical variety.
So to make an electronic speedometer, you need a donor speedometer head.
You could salvage one from a w126 and modify the rear housing to fit the w124 cluster, or you could simply buy an 400E/E420 cluster from the US from ebay.
Then you will need to swap back your tacho into the new cluster.
From there, the process is simple. You can either purchase the VR specific version of the speedohealer V4 OR you can purchase a hall-sensor and use a trigger mounted on the propellershaft or gearbox.
Either way, there are a few small issues to overcome, such as finding the correct speedo head (w126 metric speedo or w124 US imperial speedo) and then setting the unit values up.
