Hey fellas, its been a while. About 8 months ago i had my 4th injection line give on my 603 so I decided to park the benz and see what I could do about freshining up the hotside. My plans can be seen in the first photo. My question is about my newly aquired turbo. Its a garret off of a dt466 (casting numbers shown). Im eventually planning on modifying my pump as most of us are so im looking to rebuild this turbo in such a way that would aquire me around 250 smooth consistent hp's. by looking at the exhaust housing, I would imagine it would need to be replaced with something that has the capacity for a wastegate? So im hoping to get schooled on this compressor. Possible turbine wheels, housings. . Any info suggestions you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

That would require replacing it with a different turbo. That non-wastegated turbine will be extremely slow to spool with zero control over boost pressure and the compressor housing's lack of map-width slot means it will be very likely to surge if you do get it to spool.

Since you'll need both compressor and turbine, its best to sell that turbo and buy a better designed one.
Garrett doesn't make good large-frame turbos, look for a Holset HX35 or Schwitzer S2/S200.

What exhaust manifold is that? Have an extra?

I agree with FI any non waste gated / vnt turbo is probably not worth the time.

Well thats lame. I was looking for a good vnt, however im waiting for someone to work out electronic controls. So an hx35 it is then. Thanks for the asdvice guys. The manifold you see is a US spec euro manifold. Comes with a egr port which i will be using for my egt sensor. They can be found at car-parts.com

From a 3.5L engine?
