08-12-2012, 01:40 PM #1Hey guys need a little advice on this topic. I am not sure how I would be going about hooking up the engine temp from the w201 cluster to the om603 motor. Does anyone have a schematic for the w201 gasser cluster so I can plug into the correct wire.

The ETM is there.
I'm guessing it's green and white. There are only so many one-pin sensor wires anyhow, I'd try shorting each to ground and seeing which makes the temp gauge twitch.

I ran a wire from the sensor and touched the control knob at the back of the cluster. Still can not get the engine temp to move when the motor is warm.
I tried putting a 9 volt batter to the power #1 pin and touched each other pin and can only
Get the gas gauge to move. Couldn't get anything to move with the engine temp. I'm startin to think I have either a faulty sensor or actual gauge.

I finally found which wire was headed to the engine temp wire at the cluster. I finally ran a wire from the sensor at the water pump, and now I am getting a huge spike in the engine temp gauge. Is there suppose to be resistance in the line. This happened even when the motor is not on. When I turn the ign in the ON position it spikes right up.
Any insight in this guys. Don't really want to be driving the motor without a engine temp.

I checked the resistance at the sensor gave me something like .6. The actual wire from one end to the other end gave me .7. Which got me even more confused.

Also, try messing around with the gauge to understand it more. What makes it peg high, what makes it low. In between could be tricky without a resistance chart though.
I had no trouble hooking up my w124 gasser gauge. You have the right sensor right, by the glowplugs? And double check the pin on the cluster you're using, and whether you have other things connected right (ground etc).

As much as I am embarased to say this, but I will say it. I was working with the wrong sensor this whole time. I have found out allot about the engine temp guage and its reactions to resistance. And I know the wires to the plug in the rear of the cluster by heart now.
I was trying to make the sensor located right by the water pump work with the guage. To my understandings I for some reason thought that was the sensor this whole time.
One wire to the correct sensor voila engine temp works.
So someone else doesnt mistaken which sensor we are working here.
It is located right near the head, in the middle of the motor located right behind the IP if your looking at the side of the motor.
