So basically my central locking system is crapping out and the trunk lock refuses to unlock... I've read that there's some kind of release cable somewhere but I don't know. I need to fix my vacuum system anyway...but anybody got any tips on how I could get it open?

Use the vacuum hoses under the floormats. Find the trunk ones and vacuum it open.

Ok thanks. I have an idea though. I have a vacuum pump for a dental porcelain furnace (from my dad's business), I was thinking about hooking that up to the main line and going around the car and listening for leaks. It's stronger than the car's pump too so it may work to unlock the trunk. I'm hoping it isn't a bad line I'll have to replace, I'm thinking the passenger lock actuator could be shot. I've heard a high pitched hissing sound from that door a few times.

do you only have the valet key? the master key should unlock it at the trunk button...i've never had the vacuum locks working on my car and never had trouble unlocking the trunk... I got two keys when I bought it, one that opens everything and one that doesnt work for the trunk(valet).

W123 Mods: 4 speed ** manual climate control ** '85 Kalitucky intake ** manual windows & full tint ** Euro headlights retrofit w/bixenon projectors ** 4 brake light mod ** Vogtland 50mm drop front & Lesjofors S600 drop rear springs ** 16" rims ** late w126 brake spindles, rotors & calipers ** full suspension rehab ** Bilstein HDs ** AL129X alternator & 1/0 starter and charging cables ** 300GD clutch/flywheel ** AFCO 80103N radiator & Earl's 41610 oil cooler ** custom block-off plate, remote oil filter & t-stat ** MW IP w/ tomnik's 6.5mm 'Holly' elements **

S124 Mods: 400E Rear subframe ** SL600 Brakes ** Late 300E 210mm diff ** SLK230 6 speed ** 17" CLK rims ** Vented RF Fender ** Facelift Hood, Headlights, and Lower Cladding **

I've also heard about hitting the area under the trunk lid where the license plate is with a 2x4 or somethin, not sure how that works though

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!

Howdy,

I actually have real world experience on this one. I recently bought a car, w123 sedan where the PO "forgot" to mention that the rear trunk lock was busted. It was actually drilled out and really screwed up. The "Thump" method will work and a modified "Thump" method worked for me. I took a screw driver where the the PO drilled out the cylinder and hit that screw driver a few times, not super hard, and the trunk lid popped right open. So, if you don't have a destroyed cylinder or lock already, I would try the Thump method. You will need 2 people, and it worked for me. I did this about 2 weeks ago.

Well it's been a while since I posted this. But I ended up finding the vacuum line junctions under the plastic trim underneath the passenger door. Tried a couple lines with a crappy pump I bought and no luck. But the very last tube I tried was it. Sucked the air out and click! The trunk was open! The central locking system is pretty messed up so I ended up just capping off the main line to the locks.
