I have a 1990 n/a 603 300GD (see photo). I have a nice 603A that I can transplant in. But I also have access to a 99 E300 with a 606A.

I also have a brand new 603A FI pump that I could use to convert the 606 to mechanical FI.

I much prefer the 606 motor but unsure of what I need to do to control the boost pressure on the 606 since I will be going full mechanical.

If I can get a clear understanding of what I need to do I will go with the 606 motor.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Converting the 606 to a pressure-operated wastegate should be easy. Here's the process for the 602.

I've got questions on swapping a 606.962 to a W124: What should I implant with the 606 motor? Alternator, AC compressor...?

More like 606 has the really small plain wastegated turbo. I would not be surprised if a little hp was sacrificed for more bottom-end response.

what is the main differences between the 606 and the 603, besides the turbo, and bad heads? Would a 603 with better heads and a turbo be just as good as a 606?

(10-15-2012, 06:45 AM)winmutt DOHC, 24valve vs 12v.

so I guess the 606 is more efficient,IE more power and mileage. And I hear about people swapping 603 fuel pumps so they can run it without electronics. Does that negate the possibility of having extra power and mileage. And this should probably be in another thread but does the 606 have a ECU that could be made to control 4 ESP and ETS. Which brings me to this question! can 4 ESP and ETS be made to work in an earlier 463, such as one with a 606.

The electronic pump has larger pump elements than the manual pump, so an unmodified manual pump will have less power. Mileage will not be affected.

I doubt there's any chance of those later electronics working easily. Course the 606 did come with ASR, which is like a quarter of what ETS is.
