What pumps/part numbers are the optimal ones to source before sending off to have larger elements fitted?

I would like to build a superturbodiesel, in a w124, cdi six speed manual and am looking for it to be a daily driver. Ideally I would like 400-500bhp, but with the minimal amount of lag and maximum longevity. Possible? Is there a known formula for such a specification?

Cheers!

Ps - advise greatfully received!

I've got one of those! ... Buts it's attached to my E300D W124.

Seriously is that the pump to have? I'll have to keep my eye out for one.

Are any of the mech 603 pumps suitable too?

Regards,

Max

Hello gurus.
I am new here officially, but unofficially I am with you about the last 3 months.
First of all let me thank all of you guys for this forum and your community. It is pleasure to read your informative messages, instead of russian one.
I decided to register, because maxypriest opened this important topic for me.
I am going to buy w124 and cant chose, which engine is preferable for future mods. It is possible to buy OM603.960 and then replace it by om606.960, but it will be necessary to spend money, time and nerve for new registation, because this engine in this body has never been produced. Coming from the problem with our law, regarding om606.960+w124, I would like to ask your advice on the questions, the answers on which I have not found in the internet, in order to make the best choise.

Lets start.
I found in the internet such statement:
"Per the Intro to Service Manual for the 95 E300D, the OM606.910 (and presumably the 912 in the non-turbo W210 E300D) has oil cooling for the pistons. The difference compared to the OM606.961/962 or the OM603.960 is that it lacks oil galleys in the pistons."
1. Could anybody clarify - does it mean that there is no enough oil for pistons lubrication?
If so, could it be possible to replace 606.910 pistons by 606.960 in order to resolve this issue?

2. Do I understand correctly that om606.910 has IP from 603.960 but a bit improved (Better camshaft and guvenor!) and does not have all electrical stuff of 606.960 IP?

3.1 Is it correct, that if I change pistons from 606.910 to 606.960 and add turbo, I will get what lots of ppl want on this forum - om606 engine with 603 IP?
3.2 In other words - Is it correct that engines OM606.910 and 606.960 are the same, exept pistons and absence of turbo for the 910 model?

4. What is the date when MB started to install 606.910 into w124 body? Is it 1993 or 1994? Right with restyle (1993) or next year after restyle?

5. Could anybody explain or show me please what are guvenor and ALDA? Cant find any translation, dont understand some conferences.

Sorry maxypriest, that I ask questions in your topic, but I have the same vision, what I want to get from my w124 (500-600HP, 6 speed, daily car).
Thank you for your replies.

1. The turbo pistons have a chamber under the pistonbowl to improve cooling, the N\A has not! On the N\A engine the oiljets just spray the underneath of the piston. Both metods cools the piston, but the turbo pistons is a better methodWink

2. Om606.910 has an 603.910 style injection pump, but with better camshaft and guvenor. The number ends with RS203, and this is the best pump to build superpump ofWink

3. The best is to buy a OM606 turbo engine! The blocks are pretty mutch the same, and you can change the internals...But a whole engine is better as it has a oil return hole in the block and it has a oilcooler filterhousingWink

4. I think it is the later models that have the OM606.910 engine...

5. This is to much to explain:p

Thank you for your reply) There is a question.
What would be better? Cant make the dicision.
- buy 603.960, in 6 month make all changes for 400-500hp approximetely and when the engine is dead, repleca it by 606.960?
or
- buy 606.910, add a turbo for few month (for exapmle Holset 35) in order to be a bit quicker and again in 6 month to do all changes, and if this engine will be dead, change it to 606.960?

I dont know, how is in EU with replacement of engines, but here in Ukraine, you need to spend about 2 thousands USD if you want to make it in a legal way, I mean w124+om606.960. Also in Ukraine the cost of om606.960 is about 2 thousands USD. So the total is about 4 thousands.Dodgy
It is not a problem, but maybe is it better to spend this money in a different way? Need your advice.

The final project I see is: total repair, black colour, wald, hi-end music based on car pc, recaro seats, hi quality leather interior, 500-600HP, 2 turbos (low and hi rpm) as in your project, 6speed.
