I have been researching turbo upgrade ideas - originally I was going to go with the H1C off my 1st gen Cummins - but after reading a few posts starting to think maybe there are better options.

Should qualify that by saying maybe I should stick to my original idea and stop reading so much. Always seems to be information on both sides of the fence.

Anyways wanted thoughts on turbo ideas from the people who have played with them!

These are the three options so far, but open to other suggestions / ideas

1 - H1C with a 12 - 16cm housing thinking it will spool up faster

2 - stock turbo

3 - HX35 which has been used by quite a few people on different combos


Lastly I have no ALDA on the car - shipped my M pump off to Dieselmeken - cleaned up injectors and have EGT free manifolds waiting to go on the car once I get the turbo figured out.

Looking forward to hearing your take on the situation.

HE341VE. Big, variable vane, stock turbo on big trucks.

HE351VE, HUUUUUGE, variable vane, stock on newer Cummins trucks. It will have the possibility to surge a lot, but will never leave oyu wanting more on the upper end.

I *think* both of these are water cooled and have rpm outputs.

Be sure to port all your manifolds, I've found some big time core shift on the stock units.

HE341VE. Big, variable vane, stock turbo on big trucks.

I *think* both of these are water cooled and have rpm outputs.

Of course, there are many more questions. This is just a start.
I personally think using a turbo from an engine of twice the displacement will lead to poor results, unless you have major mods done to the pump.

This will be a daily driver until the jeep project is finished, then will split dd duty with jeep.

Mods so far are the basics while I wait for my dieselmeken pump. Manifolds injectors Alda delete valve adjustment etc. BUT I have a head getting cleaned up and port matched with some discussion on further mods that will go on with inter cooler when the pump arrives.

My fab abilities are intermediate I would say, but anything I mess up on can always get fixed by a machinist I have been working with on intake mod.

It's a toy and I like my toys!

Was thinking the big turbo would be plenty - smaller housing to spool up faster would offset the size.

Look into the Holset HY35/HE341. They have the same compressor as an HX35 but with a 9cm exhaust housing for quick spooling. According to dieselboy you should have 10 psi by 2800 rpm, and the capability to flow enough air for around 300hp.

Someone here will back me up. Read dieselboys build thread for his real world experience

Sorry ok. i see.
But i have no experience width No VNT i have only tried HE351VE, and HE341VE. and the HE351 was a bit slow for daily driver. but great at high RPM
