I drove a ridiculously rusty 603 around for years, not sure how it got rusty to begin with but there's not much moisture in the engine bay for it to progress. Too much rust = hole rusted thru block. Or important internal stuff being rusted. I'd be more worried about the transmission cooler lines.

I like how they shipped it on its side.

Its just corossion and isn't rot. Clean everything with a brillo pad or scotch brite and make it pretty at some point.

I think Greazzer would disagree lol

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!

Every 606 that I've seen pictures of--at least from slavage places, has rust. It seems the pullies and nuts are always rusty. I think a grinder with the metal, wire brush would take care of about 95 percent.

My 606 had corrosion on the aluminum pieces but that cleaned off with a fine steel wool pad
