Hi, I'm planning on putting an OM605 into a w201 & I plan to try to get as much power out of it as I can reliably but I also want keep the interior looking pretty much stock so which auto boxes should I be looking at & what models of Merc do they come from.

I'd prefer a purely hydraulic auto, not an electronic one but can the hydraulic ones be made to handle the power & torque?

I could be very wrong here so please correct me. If you where in the uk the om605 is in the c250 so pre 1996-7 would be hydraulic auto box then onto electronic?

Look up what codes they are?

I believe they were 722.4 transmissions like the w201, thing is I'm not sure they will handle big power & torque, I want to know which auto box would be the best option for a highly tuned 605.

There is at least one other guy in Australia with an OM605 in a w201, he was getting 540hp at the rear wheels.

Anyone? I know the stock box that was attached to that engine won't handle a tuned one.

Check it out first, but I would have thought a 722.6 would fit with a standalone controller. You would need to beef the box up, that part can certainly be done.

W124 om606 HX40 finished and it's a beauty 450bhp/456ft-lbs

What I want to know is if the 722.6 will physically fit in a W201 tunnel? How much bigger is it vs the 722.4?

I hope so because my friend and I are building a 606/722.6 into a w201..

Installed:

OM606/722.6, big IC, W220 brakes.
Planned:
DIY manifold, compound, 722.6 controller, built IP.
[i]Less rust..

There are a few w201 cars with 722.6s in them. I have atleast 2-3 customers in europe running them. I know it is tight but the 722.6 really is only a little bulkier than the 722.3 transmission but not really any taller or wider. They are basically the same length. I have not heard of anyone having trouble fitting one in.
