The w202 got the speed from the ABS sensors. You will have to figure out something electronic.

If want something that looks stock the w124 speedo is very similar to the w201 (slightly different faceplate) and had electronic versions in the v8 models:

what do the tail sections of both transmissions look like? You can remove the output flange with a 30mm deep 12pt socket and then remove the tail section of the trans on both if it looks like they will swap over. They are often the same between years/models but not always. Anyway, if the sections ARE the sme then you should be able to figure out what needs to be swapped over to the new one from the old one...

then you can just reuse your old cable
