Got a better grille from PnP... and some nice looking headlight doors to make it look better until I can get my hands on some euro lights. Also finally got the Ronal's on the car... They're a little small in my opinion but I think they look better than the 15-hole wheels that were on the car before.

I got an OM606 turbo for 1250 for my 300SDL I think that's cheaper than getting an om603 head and having it machined and buying gaskets and what not. plus my 603 still has the old style vacuum pump that can explode at any time so if I'm going to go through all the work to save it that's another $450 for the new style pump just for peace of mind.

I got a new style vacuum pump today with the sealed bearings for $30... Looks like it might have just been replaced. A bunch of new parts on this w124 I found in the yard.

Made a deal on a #22 head to so hopefully soon ill have the car back up and running. I also scored an IP at the pick n pull... Only cost me $45 to! Now I just need to save some $$ to get this IP built and also a good sized variable vane turbo

It isn't that hard to swap elements yourself. If you're really looking to save some money.

I would be willing to do the work, no issue there. I just want the car to run well so I'd just assume have a pro build up the pump. If I run across an om606a pump I might have to snag it for the elements, then do a DIY install and see how it goes. I have a spare stock pump now so I could always swap back. I know the 6mm elements won't give me the most power but they will give a good bump if paired with a better turbo than the stock one.

I need to find my wife a car, that way I can make this one a 5spd. If she has to drive it she said I can't convert it to a stick, I guess she's lazy when it comes to shifting Tongue

I actually had those on my w123 300D for awhile. Had to make a spacer for the steering arm because of the offset but they fit great and looked good on the car. I did use a 15mm spacer on the rear but the fronts lined up nicely after I spaced the steering arm.

Decided to pull the trigger since PickNPull was 50% off over thanksgiving weekend. Found a 190D with a 5spd and pulled all the parts to do the conversion. Probably won't be putting it in until after I get the head put on, have to get the car running before I can do the 5spd swap.

All in all I picked up all the parts for around $120 tax and everything. Not bad in my book! I also grabbed some of the parts I need to get the other newly aquired 87 up and running.

Anxiously awaiting the 5spd swap though. A friend has a 190D 2.5T with a 5spd swap and it's loads of fun to drive.

The dimensions of the back half of the DS should not change, you can keep your old one. I don't know of any W201 vehicle that has a front DS that's the right length for this swap. If it works, then great.

From what I read here tjts1 used the 190e front half + 260 rear half. (http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/Thre...speed-swap)

The 190 uses a different splined shaft so the 300D rear half wont work. The 260E rear half is same length as 300D but has the correct spline for the 190e front shaft. I'll have to bolt the front half up to the trans and measure it to see but from what I read it should work. Since the trans wont clear the larger output flange of the 300D without mods I decided to go this route for now. I can always mod the trans and get the larger shaft later when I'm making more power but for now I think it should be enough to get the car running.

Ooooooh. What is the advertised torque capacity of this setup? It this kevlar?

*edit* Nevermind. Checked the site. 390 Ft/LB or 530NM @9.0" diameter w/organic disc. Compared to the Sach 765 9.5" torque rating of 600NM w/organic. The pricing is competitive with a 765 PP and organic disc.

Please tell us about pedal stiffness once you install it :-)

I think they can build a PP to hold more if requested. I think this PP is actually a sachs they modified, there's some letters under the clutchnet sticker but I didn't have the heart to take it off yet. It will be awhile before I get the car running but I'll definitely report back, need to do the head and get a couple other small things.

I wanted to make sure I had a clutch that would hold stock power and a little more, I may only shoot for ~250hp initially but we'll see how long that lasts.

I wanted to make sure I had a clutch that would hold stock power and a little more, I may only shoot for ~250hp initially but we'll see how long that lasts.

Car runs! Finally got around to doing the head swap. Running great so far, so I'm going to dive in to the 5spd swap here pretty soon.

Hi question on clutch.. I have a complete 84 190d to swapp 5speed into my 87 300d. Im looking for the cluch. My question is will all the cluch kits from a 190e or d fit? Im looking for the most tq rating because I have an hx35 and 8mm pump. If im not mistaken the flywheel is a single mass which will accept the 16v 2.6 l clutch whitch seems to have the highes rating tq

The 16v was a 2.3. Is that what you have? There are 8.5", 9" and 9.5" clutches, IIRC. Teh 16v will have a 9" singlemass. You should be able to find a pressure plate and disc combo that will hold HX35 torque with a 16v flywheel.

I have the 2.2 diesel. So will that only accept an 8" clutch? Im hoping to find a clutch to hold atleast around 500tq

Yeah it's probably an 8" clutch. Not what you want. The flywheel can be machined to accept a BMW pressure plate. The Sachs 765 pressure plate (bmw) is the stoutest thing around at 440 LB-FT with organic disc. Your trans will be the weak link.

That 717.411/410 won't last. Go ahead and find another trans now.... 9" single mass is not enough to hold with stock pressure plate. On that clutch net model, did they list clamping pressures? I am doing well with my sinter puck and stock pressure plate, although its a bitch to drive in traffic.

I plan on a heavy clutch kit with pressure plate and ceramic puck. I have two trans so if I blow one ill have another. What should I look for then? What trans? Flywheel still should be ok correct?

The 190d flywheel won't take a big clutch. You need a 2.3 16v or a 300E flywheel. The 16v flywheel (what I have) will take a 9" clutch. I got the stage 3 kit from clutchnet. I don't remember the clamping force but it should hold over 400ft lb from my conversations with Oleg at clutchnet.

My dilemma now is if I should fix this .432 trans I have (needs new synchro for 2nd) and get the sprinter conversion flywheel instead of using this clutchnet kit and the 16v flywheel I have. Then I could sell the .410 trans to someone who isn't planning on building for power. I have an hx35 in the trunk so eventually it will find its way on to the car with a pump from Goran or the guys here in Cali he has been working with.

You can get a clutch and flywheel from clutchnet that is rated for more power and will fit in the 190d flywheel. You can get an 8.5" clutch disk in that flywheel. But as previously mentioned, tha trans will be the weak link once you have a built IP. The 410 trans should be ok for a stock motor but once you add more power it'll go boom, winmutt and others have experienced this Big Grin

The .41x series all had increased torque ratings and the 404 was the highest until the 43x line was produced. That .430 in cali I found on car-part.com. The 8.5" clutch will hold about 6 mos on stock engine.

Yeah.. I thought about that too. I won't know for sure until I pull it but I'm thinking it's the clutch/PP, could just be my perception but it seems like the pedal is softer than I remember.

Good thing is I talked to Oleg at clutchnet and he told me to send it back to him and he will check it out and replace if there is something wrong with it. He thinks something might not be right since it's been just over a year and around 20k miles since I installed it.

Been busy with other things so I finally got the car back together. I actually ended up in socal so I took the PP/flywheel to Oleg at his shop and showed him everything. He tested the PP and it was very strong so there was a spacing issue. Some of the rivets in the PP were preventing it from seating all the way on the flywheel so after a little wear on the disc it started to slip since the PP wasn't clamping down all the way.

Oleg took care of it, replaced the disc for me no charge. He fixed the pressure plate and also did something to it so the pedal feels better. I can say after a couple days driving it that it definitely feels better to drive and not near as stiff as before. Some what neutral experience with clutchnet but now that we have a couple diesel specific performance places to order from I'll probably be spending money with ftune or dieselpumpUK for a beefier clutch/trans when I have the funds saved up for that.
