New to the mercedes diesels. I'm very impressed by the om606. (norway builds are insane!) The chassis that this motor will go into is not a concern right now. Just after a strong transmission to put behind it. plan on pushing the stock internals of a om606 turbo

Id prefer a manual trans but if the only factory options are weak or crazy expensive the an automatic will do.

Worst case scenero I try some toyota transmissions or something more american like the t56. or 4l80 or th400 or th350

T5 or T56 is the best bet as they can be had with no bell housing and offer a lot of different ratios. Build a bell housing from a junk auto box.
Brand new T5s with 800Ft/lbs holding are about what you would pay to build up a 722.6 never mind the electronics to run it.

fly wheel and clutch options would be the next question. there are tons of pressure plates and discs for Usdm v8's and from what i understand the benz have a raised tab on the flywheel for rpm indication. are the flywheels balance to crank or internally balanced? say if i was to take a 10'' flywheel from a LS1 and fill the flywheel holes with weld then machine MB pattern to it and fashion a piolet bushing then use a forkless clutch slave actuator.

Clutch is easy. Many m-b flywheels fit the crank of the 606. Then simply machine it flat and pin it for what ever Pp you want. Diesel doesn't need timing tabs. The ring gear is uses for a rpm speed sensor. Unless you using a 606/605 and will attempt to keep the drive by wire pump ( no you won't do that )

no drive by wire. 603 pump (not sure of element size but i beleive stock is 5.5mm and some modified builds use7.5mm) I will also be reading up on how to swap pumps. on vw tdi you have to do some machining to use the 11mm auto IP.
ring gear for tach signal thats interesting.
the t56 have double overdrive some down to .50:1 6th gear, i would like to pair this with a 3.55:1 diff or 3.2 for some low highway rpms and 28'' tires like 245/45r16 if traction becomes a problem maye 275 Smile

Good to hear. Yeah the stock is 5.5 unless you swap out the drive by wire pump elements which are 6mm. But if your going through all that work your better off doing the 8mm or 7.5mm. The 603 pump will bolt right up to the block and the drive gear with no modification, you will need to use the 606 line set rather then the 603. I believe Diesekmeken has built a partnership with someone here in the states (save on shipping).
Yeah it's strange that they use the ring gear for a speed signal on older M-B's.
Whats this swap going into?

figuring out a tach will be interesting but that's a priority for later. I saw that place you mentioned, its a place in California that does pump builds here in the states right?
And the chassis that this goes in is still undecided. i have a w210 e320 that has been given to me due to electrical problems, there is a 4 door e30 that looks neat but damn the glove box is ugly looking, but its going to be a 4door of some kind to be used as a daily which may end up as a car for texas or florida if this motor has the potential that the fins have it cracked up to be. I'd like to bring a 800hp diesel 4 door to texas and play with the lambos, vettes, and vipers but that's just a wet dream.

Once i get a donor car or motor ill have some updates. expect updates around june to sept. currentally looking for a new home here in SC so that will put me back

w126SEC with om605 turbo, althou still small elements and stock turbo, althou a om606 shouldnt be to hard to fit in there, way bigger than a w123..

(and yes, it will be lowered at the front, we got the springs from a regular 380SE, it basicly scraped the oilpan on the ground earlier....)

---------------------------------
daily driver
w115 240d 72hp 3.07 rearend
w123 om602 turbo 200whp 7.5mm pump fivespeed 3.07 rearend
+ a few more.

Too much long the first gear in some models, all with 550 rated.
The 3,35 ratio in first gear it is for 350 rated gearbox.

Best can be the 4.6 Mustang , 2,97 first gear, 0,62 6 gear, 450 rated, but also is a bit long first gear, Merc manuals are 5,014:1 ratio.
Is very close as starting in second gear (MB 2,831:1 second gear T56 2,97:1 first gear Mustang 4.6)

Sorry, 5,014 first gear are 6 speed MB 6 speed gearboxes, 5 speed gearboxes I see 3,856:1 or 3,91:1 first gear.

how about the toyota R transmissions? The R154 has been proven to do 10 seconds in quarter mile and withstand up too 800hp Gas 6cylinder turbo cars of 3500lbs-3900lbs cars with some modifications which are bolt in parts by marlin crawler. R150 and R151 are similar internally but the case is for 4wd applications
