Its about time I posted up some small progress on my hunk of sh** w202......

I got this c250 on ebay, was a bit of a punt! (unseen with only two or three emails between the seller and me)

It came from a "car dealer" who had taken it in part-x, I really can't see why he bothered.

Without wishing to slag someone off who Ive never met, some of the work (OK all of the work) is really bad.... in some places just dam right dangerous.....

So the plan is to sort the issues out with the car and re-test and tax it, I want a power goal of around 3-400Hp for less than £1500 including the price of the car..... which cost me a grand total of £500

£500 got me a "MOT'd" 1998 c250 with a holset h1c on the standard manifold with an adapter....

Along with a whole host of other rubbish mods including the stupendously low suspension, I was hoping for a nice set of coil overs , instead I found some very cut springs....
heres a few pictures of the skip.. (sorry they are so crap I will sort some new ones out tomorrow)

Yes, God only knows why the last owner did half the things he did....

I have done the resistor mod so it's a tiny bit better, but still silly.

Got some new springs and a new intercooler + pipe work to go on, then it's new exhaust and manual pump! 8mm sounds good to me!

I should be getting it in the workshop later on, so will get some better pictures..

Ok so I had it up on the ramp today to get a few things sorted, First thing to go where the god awful springs that had been cut far too much.

The rears came out without un-bolting anything, Which is worrying in itself but made life easier.

The fronts where a bit harder and a spring compressor was used to get the new ones in. Ride is much better and full lock is now fine without scrubbing.

Ok, so now the ride is better and the hight is OK, I will change the shocks as the rebound is a bit slow.... I Think being bottomed out for the last few thousand miles killed them off.

I also started on the quest of fitting an over-sized intercooler.

I should have started with a smaller one but this was cheap.

I will try and get the pipe work sorted tomorrow and start on the new exhaust.

So I started on the pipework for the intercooler, had a few issues as its 3" pipe work and with all the standard PAS and Aircon Pumps its tight, I cut the headlight bottom support out to make space for the pipes.

Didn't have much time so only got the "cold" side done, still needs a bit of work to get it all properly in place. Will start on the "hot" side tomorrow.

Ha, I'm sure you can tell I'm not spending a fortune on this thing. I'm using what I have around me and rather than bend up some old manky steel I just used the threaded rod. works really well and is super easy to do...

It can be done, but getting things at a sensible price takes time, have finished the intercooler pipe work etc so will be selling the old 2" stuff to put back in the piggy bank.

Well the dealer I got if from said that the previous owner was hoping to change the pump.

So I guess it was the first of a few mods, he had fitted a variable resistor to up the fuelling but even that was hanging out and taped up etc.....

It drove like ass, all the power was within a 500rpm range.

But the money I paid was low and I have been able to recoup lots by removing tacky crap.

The registration plate is up for sale, having been valued at £250 so thats money in the pot for a new pump.

I decided to try and sort the alloys out as they looked a state, Very badly corroded, paint was peeling off etc.

It didn't go to plan to be honest, I really didn't spend enough time on them and the pitting was too deep in places to sensibly recover from.

However I didn't want to buy some new alloys or pay for these to be sorted as I'm working to a budget and this car is about performance and not looks, Although I wanted them to be at least a solid colour without paint flaking off.

I really don't know what the last owner was on about, I get not being OTT with the bodywork etc but....

Look at the front wings, one was so scabby its unreal.... If it had been sorted when the paint started bubbling it wouldn't have pitted so badly.

The wheels really don't look great in real life, but once again its a solid colour again and not flaking so its better...

My boot lid is ok, Most rust around the key hole.

Might wrap the car in grey vinyl if I have some money left over.

No it's not, but It's possible they changed it...

Took it out for a drive, I have welded up the wastegate as its no use atm.

Ended up blowing the boost pipes off, made 15psi on the hc1 compared to the 5psi with the waste gate on.

Even a bleed valve didn't stop the gate from being open.... think it was just week as sh*t

Made up some brackets for my bucket seat and chucked that in today.

Nothing pretty but its rock solid, Nearly sorted most of the crap on the car.

No need for a waste gate......

It will do more than 15psi but the pipes came off!! Doubt it will make too much more as the fuel isn't there.

When I make a new manifold I will get a proper waste gate.

Ok so I thought I would get a new Head as I want to keep the car mobile while I do further mods to it. The garage its kept at only has the one ramp and its important it doesn't get stuck on there for too long.

I want to make a new exhaust manifold + down pipe and port it slightly (de-coke + a small port while I'm at it) Plus put some new stiffer valve springs in while its all apart, doubt it really needs them but if I get to the point of revving it upwards of 5500 then I might as well do it now.

The pre chambers will be enlarged slightly as well, Nothing OTT but once again once I put it back together I don't want it to come apart again...

When I got the head two of the pre chambers clearly let go?? No idea why but there is no other damage to the head....

I presume there is a tool to remove the pre chambers? Where can I find this?

I started to clean the head up today, there really isn't much meat to take out of the ports.

Have cleaned up casting marks etc and opened things up a few mm all round.

I doubt it will make much odds but I hope it gets flow back to oem plus a small amount.

The ports where fairly gummed up with egr crap!!

Will post pictures tomorrow of my progress.

Thanks, I'll get one ordered

What caused the two prechambers to break up ? It hasn't done any damage to the head?

Hello

So I haven't done much with this of late. However I did repaint the centre console Wood parts black.

Didn't turn out very well so Im going to cover them In black vinyl instead to hide the De-lamination as paint just isn't cutting it.[Image: IMG_0746_zpsuefd5aqt.jpg]

those prechambers could be affected from previous overfueling or the injectors nozzles wouldn't shut properly, causing this in time.

check the injectors at special shop, meanwhile you have them off! Big Grin

Thanks, Good to know what happened....

but this is not my engine, I got the cylinder head for £10 on ebay, got it to port and enlarge the pre chambers etc so no injectors to worry about being broken or worn etc

When I got it I realised that 2 of the 5 where mangled!!

I have ported it out a fair bit and will change the valve springs, and fit some enlarged pre chambers when I have time!

Will dyno the car before and after to see if it has made any difference.
