Can anyone tell me if the OM606.912 glow plugs are fed 12V or if the glow plug controller that interfaces with the ECU is feeding them a variable voltage?
I'm installing an aftermarket ECU and said ECU does not communicate with the stock glow plug controller so I need to fit a relay if the glow plugs can tolerate 12V or a PWM controller if the glow plugs need controlled voltage.

12 volts only. If you get a glow plug controller from an older W124 car it only needs a few inputs to work (temp, 15+, 31 and 30+)

can i ask to satisfy my own curiosity
what exactingly does the ECU on om606 control on the glow plugs.

and if you transplant the 606 into something and go purely mechanical, can the glow plug controller and wiring from the E300 be used or do you have to go with the W124

In 210 cars the N14/2 (glow plug relay) gets a turn on request from the IFI engine controller. Its basicaly a big relay not a controller

That's good news, in that case I'll just fit a relay. The stand-alone ECU has a glow control function with a configurable pre-glow time as well as glow during cranking.

Yes and it works on the bench and I've done the wiring on an OM606 swapped into a Range Rover. First start probably next week.

In the stock cars is it just a big relay that turns the current on to the glow plugs for a set amount of time, or does it turn off based on the resistance of the circuit? (or some other signal)

How many amps is the realy?

Yes I cracked open the relay and soldered a wire to bypass the control circuit, now it just functions as a dumb relay and I still have the stock 6 pin plug for the glow plugs for quick diagnostics.
