Ok so I've finally bought a om606 w210 Mercedes estate.
This passed the MoT with flying colours but I only want the engine.
I would like to know.
What gearboxes fit the om606 with manual transmission

Does the om602 sprinter box and clutch fit if I use the sprinter flywheel?
I also have a 2.9 om602 Motorhome so would love to put the 606 in this or maybe a sprinter track van.

I hear the 330d Bmw box fits if you mess with the bell housing but what clutch do I use with this?
I'm after a strong 5 speed.
Please help.

Yes the sprinter gearbox will bolt up and so will the flywheel and clutch. In fact all OM601-606, cdi om611 and 612 and gasoline M104 , M111, M102 and M103 engines have the same pattern and flywheels and gearboxes bolt right up.

Thanks Petar
you've answered the question thats been on my mind for ages!
ok so which gearbox is the strongest out of all of these?
also is there any problem with using a lower geared van gearbox instead of a car one? i guess they are rated stronger?

i like the 312d gearbox as the gearstick is actually attached to it, no cables or mechanisms.

It is a real shame you are breaking a rust free 210! The panels will be valuable as long as the colour isn't some obscure Champagne Gold type.

Installed:

OM606/722.6, big IC, W220 brakes.
Planned:
DIY manifold, compound, 722.6 controller, built IP.
[i]Less rust..

Most mercedes 5 speed gearboxes have direct fourth and around 0.8 overdrive fifth gear, except for the dog leg ones that have direct 5th. I have no idea what the ratios are on that sprinter box but they are probably similar. If you could get it's code number it should be something like 7XX.XXX we might be able to find the ratios.
For instance 717.460 is the 5 speed in the c250 turbodiesel, 711.110 is the old van (pre sprinter) 209D with the creeper first etc.

You can play around with the final drive ratio in the diff to get a good cruising rpm.
