OM 648 Oil Pan and Oil Pump
OM 648 Oil Pan and Oil Pump
Some of us have been looking for a OM 648 oil pan and oil pump for some 4x4 conversions. I have found a few used for upwards of $600.00 and are getting almost impossible to find in the USA.
I have done some internet surfing and have found the parts new, price doesn't seem bad for Mercedes OEM.
Oil Pan 648 014 03 02 $393.00
Oil Pump 648 180 03 01 $456.00
I guarantee is saves a $1,000 worth of grief. Just did a Jeep JK with the OM 648 pan and oil pump, it wouldn't have happened with the OM 606 pan.
I'm starting to pull the 606.962 out of the donor car so I can finally get measurements for my F150 4 x 4 swap. I noticed some OEM .648 pumps and pans available as well as dipsticks when I google the oem part numbers. I guess that just leaves the pickup tube, the main cap fasteners and oil pan bolts to complete the pan swap? I really want to keep the engine as low as possible in the swap so I won't have to lift the truck. Thanks for keeping us up on it Zeeman. If you see a possibility of a group buy, let me know.

A dry sump would be awesome. What would we look for on ebay? Would you have to mod a stock pan to get rid of the sump and just plumb from the remote tank to the stock pump through a boss in the pan? How would you scavenge oil back to the remote tank?

If we were dealing with small block Chevy, would definitely be doable although still several grand. I wonder if any of the European drifters have tried a dry sump on an OM 606? Might be a good question for dieselmeken.
