So this is something discussed here previously, of using the rear sump OM648 pan on the OM606 engine, to gain more clearance over the front sump OM606 pan.

Try as I might, however, I have been unable to find any OM648 rear sump pan, or any part number for a OM648 rear sump pan.

The part numbers that have been floated around of R6480140302 and R6480140202 are for a front sump pan.

So the question is, does this OM648 rear sump pan exist? And if so, does anyone have a part number for it?

I will say that I have found many rear sump OM613 pans in plentiful supply, as part number R6130140102, and wonder if this is what people are referring to as the OM648 rear sump pan.

I have also found OM603, M103, and M104 pans with a rear sump, but have not heard of one of these being used with an OM606.

Anyone able to give some help?

Rear Oil Pan  648 014 03 02
Oil Pump  648 180 03 01

Discussed on this thread: http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/show...p?tid=6836
This post has great photos from Zeeman:  http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/show...8#pid64518

Item 11 is MB Part number 648 014 03 02:  http://www.mbpartsworld.com/showAssembly...ct=8330235

Item 8 is MB part number 648 180 03 01:   http://www.mbpartsworld.com/showAssembly...ct=8253966

Ebay.de search yields only the oil pan:
http://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_odkw=648+...2&_sacat=0

Keep searching and a used oil pump will eventually show up (or you may prefer to purchase new).

Thanks for the very helpful reply, and you are absolutely right on the part number.

For the OM648 rear sump pan, part number 648 014 03 02 is correct, my error!!

I suppose one last question though for anybody, is if the rear sump OM613 oil pan and OM613 oil pump will also work?

R6480140202 is also rear sump.
Just look for a W211 320CDI sump.

Do you really want to use a used oil pump? I'd suggest you buy new for peace of mind.

The 606/648 pumps are pretty much bullitt proof unless of course it came from a blown engine.
