Hello,

I'm progressing on an om605 swap into a W123 240d.

Just trying to figure out how to get hot coolant into the heater core, and which hoses to attach/run where?

The swap is from a complete car to another complete car, so I can for the most part see where everything goes but just can't quite figure out the exact route.

Any suggestions on part numbers/hose type would also be appreciated.

I have searched around for this info just haven't found it yet!

Any help is appreciated.

So on the W123 with manual climate controls (likely on a Euro 240 chassis) there are two "inlets" on the Starboard (right from driver's perspective) side firewall, one for each passenger and driver side of heater core. This may or may not also have an aux pump to improve flow at idle. If climate controls have separate heat for driver/pass then there will be cable actuated valves on the firewall here. The lone pipe on the Port side is the return to engine.

This/similar engine was available in the W124 which is laid out the same as above (core inlet on Starboard side) so routing should be easy. There is a hose on the OM60X that comes off the water pump housing (lower Starboard side of engine) and feeds the heater core / pump.

In your engine pic I see there is an oil cooler attached to the port I used on my OM606 in S124 install for heater return. Take a look in that area as most likely there is another unused waterjacket port, usually some O-ringed to pipe nipple kind of deal.

W123 Mods: 4 speed ** manual climate control ** '85 Kalitucky intake ** manual windows & full tint ** Euro headlights retrofit w/bixenon projectors ** 4 brake light mod ** Vogtland 50mm drop front & Lesjofors S600 drop rear springs ** 16" rims ** late w126 brake spindles, rotors & calipers ** full suspension rehab ** Bilstein HDs ** AL129X alternator & 1/0 starter and charging cables ** 300GD clutch/flywheel ** AFCO 80103N radiator & Earl's 41610 oil cooler ** custom block-off plate, remote oil filter & t-stat ** MW IP w/ tomnik's 6.5mm 'Holly' elements **

S124 Mods: 400E Rear subframe ** SL600 Brakes ** Late 300E 210mm diff ** SLK230 6 speed ** 17" CLK rims ** Vented RF Fender ** Facelift Hood, Headlights, and Lower Cladding **

In fact looking again at your engine it appears that pipe nipple between the oil cooler and filter housing is the return connection.

Thanks so much for this! It is really helpful. I'm sure the info is out there somewhere I just couldn't find it, and you've described it so well, and even threw in some Starboard/Port marine terminology which is a bonus for a sailor like myself.

I will use this as a guide.

Cheers,
Jon

In a 605 or 6 the coolant outlet for heating shall be picked at head assy rear port usually between oil filter assy. Return shall be to coolant pump upstream the coolant temp valve (thermostat).
Radiator intet shall the side where the tap is located otherwise it will heat of cycle.
