RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 02-13-2011 I redid the IP timing last weekend. It was pretty close to being timed properly but once I got it right, man what a difference. Car has alot more power pre boost. Really been enjoying revving it up, only got 25.3 this last week. This is also with the wider tires. Speaking of I replaced all the links in the rear. Some of them were really shot. With the wheel off the ground and parking brake on/trans engaged I was getting 6" or so of movement back and forth when tightening the lugnuts. Now, no more torque steer. However it does not handle as well as I expected I ended up side ways on a decreasing radius turn today. I was pushing it but it seemed that it was not as fast as I have done in my w123. I think a 500e or limo sway bar is needed to keep the contact patch maximized. RE: My 1987 300D - jonbobshinigin - 02-14-2011 Have you replaced all of the sway bar bushings? How about rear carrier bushing and control arm bushings? I also would like to get a larger sway bar for my wagon...it needs it! RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 02-15-2011 I did not replace the sway bar bushing they looked ok in the rear. I am waiting on the carrier bushings for when I get a 500E or limo swaybar. All 4 of them need replacing, at $50 a pop or so its not so cheap. It makes more sense to replace the control arm than the bushings, the whole thing is only $32 IIRC. RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 02-21-2011 Looks like I am going to need a blocking plate for the EGR RE: My 1987 300D - aaa - 02-21-2011 You found a 140 manifold? RE: My 1987 300D - willbhere4u - 02-21-2011 you bastard I want one where did you find it ???? and what it off of? is it euro or w140? RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 02-21-2011 W124 300TD. It was on ebay.de. Was $160 with shipping. Not that cheap, not that expensive... RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 03-01-2011 Took the car back to the place that did my driveline, today it is getting a catectomy and a resonatorectomy. RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 03-02-2011 Catectomy and resonatorectomy completed!!!! The good: Idle is stable now, no more hunting. More power and torque. Spool is quicker once it gets going but does not seem to be at a lower rpm. Disappointing: Sounds EXACTLY the same. RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 03-03-2011 So the sound is not exactly the same. Its not as pretty as the new 350z or its infiniti twin but there is a nice note to it. I hit 95mph in 3rd gear today. RE: My 1987 300D - Captain America - 03-03-2011 Nice! RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 03-12-2011 The sound is very nice now. Not sure if it was just a bunch of crap plugged up or what not. The intake came in today. Disappointed to see that there is no EGP port which worked so nicely for my EGT probe. RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 03-12-2011 Sneak Peak: All red text will be color changing green (idle), yellow (daily driving), red (balls to the wall). Links on bottom will be icons. Text above it is a scrolling marquee of less important information, current location (street), current music playing etc. RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 03-15-2011 (03-12-2011, 10:29 PM)winmutt Sneak Peak: I got the bluetooth code into the android app last night. Stopping at microcenter to pick up a decent soldering iron. Time to start getting proof of concept really moving. RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 03-16-2011 (03-15-2011, 04:25 PM)winmuttDummy test loop code is setup and I've got the arduino to connect to the android however I am not receiving any of my test data. I actually ran out of USB ports last night, 2 phones, arduino, bt dongle and kb/mouse. I think the problem is with the BT shield on the arduino, unfortunately my Linux box does not see it as a com port and Dell doesnt have windows 7 BT drivers for my laptop yet....(03-12-2011, 10:29 PM)winmutt Sneak Peak: RE: My 1987 300D - 300D50 - 03-16-2011 Have you tried the amarino project for arduino +android dev? If nothing else it might jog jour brain a bit. RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 03-16-2011 That is what I am using. I am pretty sure the problem is with the bluetooth shield on the arduino. RE: My 1987 300D - jonbobshinigin - 03-16-2011 Explain how changing exhaust setup altered your idle stability please. I have been thinking of doing the same thing but never for that purpose exactly. Any idea why? RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 03-17-2011 (03-16-2011, 09:30 PM)jonbobshinigin Explain how changing exhaust setup altered your idle stability please. I have been thinking of doing the same thing but never for that purpose exactly. Any idea why? All I know is that it went from cyclic to non. I think its because the cat was plugged at idle makes it hard to force air through and the ELR was constantly cycling. Just a theory. Someone on benzworld mentioned that a plugged cat could cause the hunting in someone elses thread and I totally dismissed it. Here I am now with no cat and no hunting idle so I cannot dismiss their premise. RE: My 1987 300D - jonbobshinigin - 03-17-2011 Very good information. What did it cost? RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 03-17-2011 (03-17-2011, 11:42 AM)jonbobshinigin Very good information. What did it cost? $75. RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 05-03-2011 Put two coats of wax on this weekend and boy does it shine. After I get the black trim cleaned up, I'll take pics. RE: My 1987 300D - willbhere4u - 05-03-2011 did you ever do any thing with your flex discs? RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 05-03-2011 Not yet. I am pulling the trans this weekend to replace clutch and going from there.... RE: My 1987 300D - willbhere4u - 05-03-2011 What are you doing with the clutch? I'm suppose to get my clutch kit and fly wheel today for my SDL RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 05-09-2011 Oreilys was the cheapest all around. Make sure you measure and double measure. RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 05-12-2011 Practice makes perfect. Got the clutch and trans back in last night in just over 2 hours. Car drives well and clutch engages at the bottom. Still seems like the 9" would be preferred but I think that the 9 and 9.5" fw are hard to find. It would be possible to machine the 8/8.5 clutch to accept the 9 as the 9 was just 1/16 or so to large. While I was waiting for the right clutch I finally managed to dig the ALDA out. It was leaking and has been replaced. Next up is adjusting boost. RE: My 1987 300D - willbhere4u - 06-13-2011 After you did your 5spd swap Dose the cruise still work? Dose it have any sensors on the transmission? Are there any sensors on the flywheel/bell housing on the om603? I couldn't see any on my SDL looking down through the engine bay! RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 06-13-2011 (06-13-2011, 03:17 PM)willbhere4u After you did your 5spd swapAs well as it did before. The only caveat is that there is on later models a cut out switch on the clutch for the cruise. That way if you shift with the cruise on it cuts off immediately. Hardly an issue I think. Quote:Are there any sensors on the flywheel/bell housing on the om603? I couldn't see any on my SDL looking down through the engine bay! There is the tach pickup which is on the intermediate plate/engine side. RE: My 1987 300D - willbhere4u - 06-13-2011 Dose your tach still work with the MT flywheel? RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 06-14-2011 (06-13-2011, 04:44 PM)willbhere4u Dose your tach still work with the MT flywheel? Yes the pickup for the tach is the same on both auto and manual. RE: My 1987 300D - willbhere4u - 06-14-2011 Interesting I am about to do my 6spd swap with the sprinter clutch/flywheel I may have to mod the fly wheel to make the tach work RE: My 1987 300D - aaa - 06-14-2011 The tach sensor picks up off the ring gear, shouldn't be terribly different. RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 07-01-2011 I've picked up a HY30W for the 603. PITA to reclock, you have to disassemble the whole thing and even then when its done the stock setup for the wastegate is all in the way. Pics to come when I get it reclocked along with a DIY on reclocking. Once that is out of the way I have 2 minor issues, exhaust reducer and the oil feed. Cant wait!!@#!@ RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 07-18-2011 Picked up a w202 steering wheel for the car this weekend. Need to figure out how to get the horn and airbag setup. On the 87, like the w123, there is a series of teeth and rings on the mating surface for connectivety. On the w202 its a ribbon cable wrapped around and around. Looks like I can get the 87 mating plate to fit on the w202 wheel. RE: My 1987 300D - willbhere4u - 07-18-2011 I got a leather wheel out of a 89 s420 It was a direct bolt in huge improvement over the rubber wheel We also modified one to fit my dads 1983 300d had to mod the horn pad to fit in place of the airbag it looks killer it's also 1/2 inch smaller than stock RE: My 1987 300D - Kozuka - 07-19-2011 Hey winmutt, details on what transmission/clutch/flywheel combination your using? Have you taken a look at a spec aftermarket clutch, they make ones that are meant to hold quite abit of power. I know the fins talk about the M5 pressure plate, clutch, & the machined flywheel option but bolt on would be better haha. I have a sachs 2.6 clutch but doubt that will even hold the stock torque. RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 07-19-2011 Trans was from was from a 190d. Clutch is 8.5". FW is from 300E I believe. Your best bet is tracking down a 9" fw. RE: My 1987 300D - Kozuka - 07-20-2011 What is that the sprinter flywheel, I already have a M103 flywheel probably try a 6-puck or machine it to a 9". What pressure plate are you using? What 9" clutch disks match the MB input shaft spline (26 count)? RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 07-20-2011 http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/showthread.php?tid=2077 Quote:For future reference, the 8 and 8.5 share the same mounting for the clutch plate if you have an 8 the 8.5 will work. The 9 and 9.5 are both different. Fack. I had the sachs part numbers and sizes written down some where. Oreilly's had the best deal hands down on the clutches. Rock auto has a pretty extensive list including sizes. There are clearly different pressure plates but I could not find ANY mention of them anywhere. With the W123 the FSM has all the possible clutches plates and the pressure rating on them. 1987 300 from rock auto website : Quote:BRUTE POWER Part # 92290 More Information About this Part http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/search/Clutch+Set/01351/C0015.oap?make=Mercedes-Benz&model=300E&year=1987&vi=1193824 Go into an O'reilly and have them look one up. They were all listed with sachs numbers. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE SIZE LISTED MAY OR MAY NOT REFLECT THE SIZE OF THE CLUTCH VS SIZE OF PRESSURE PLATE RE: My 1987 300D - Kozuka - 07-21-2011 Thx Winmutt! Damn, I shouldn't of gotten rid of my 16v flywheel. RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 08-15-2011 HY30W is clocked and ready to go. Manifold is at the fab shop getting a t25 flange on it. The adapter I got on ebay puts the turbo awefully close to the body. I got the whole left side of the engine off this last weekend. Wish my drill press wasnt wobbling or I'd be done with this already. RE: My 1987 300D - willbhere4u - 08-15-2011 ? LH side = drivers side Take some pics when you putting it back together! RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 08-15-2011 Well its the left side when your looking at it . Yes right hand side. I am going to take lots of pics. RE: My 1987 300D - willbhere4u - 08-15-2011 kick ass! I'm surprised the Holsex hy30w is T25 flange should spool like crazy P.S. I work at a salvage yard and L.H. is always Drives side like when your sitting in the drivers seat RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 08-16-2011 (08-15-2011, 02:45 PM)willbhere4u kick ass! I'm surprised the Holsex hy30w is T25 flange should spool like crazyIt really makes me want to get my hands on a 6mm element om602 and slap a HY30W on it. Might be the perfect marriage. Quote:P.S. I work at a salvage yard and L.H. is always Drives side like when your sitting in the drivers seatYup I was justin thinking back to the glazed over heat stroke look I had gazing at my work. RE: My 1987 300D - iheartboost - 08-16-2011 not to thread hijack but how would a om602 pump work when they are 5cyls? RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 08-16-2011 Put 6mm elements in a om602 of course. RE: My 1987 300D - iheartboost - 08-16-2011 wait.. so not using the om602 pump in your om603? RE: My 1987 300D - winmutt - 08-18-2011 Oh no I would pick up a 91-93 300d for such a project.... I am just saying the turbo is a perfect fit for the 602 engine as the flange is a t25. |
