I didn't know it could be used on diesels. D'oh! Its more to do with the fact that the 4 speed has been obsolete since the early 80's. This guy just didn't know any better. Still worth the 2 hr round trip drive to make sure, otherwise I'd been singing its raining transmissions (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWwyjmSbJPs). RE: The 5speed thread. - oel_brenner - 01-23-2009 sourced a 5-speed for my W124... need flywheel, clutch pressure plate and a bunch of other bits.. nothing like queuing up the projects 10 deep is it LIFO or FIFO ? looks like this trans came from: 124.020 200 (124 Sedan 1985-1990) 124.021 200E (124 Sedan 1985-1990) 124.080 200T (124 Stationcar 1986-1990) 124.081 200TE (124 Stationcar 1986-1990) 201.022 190 (201 Sedan 1983-1989) 201.023 190 (201 Sedan 1983-1989) 201.024 190E (201 Sedan 1983-1989) wonder what the difference between the 717.411 and the 717.430 / 717.433 ? which is what my car would have come with with a manual in europe: just gear ratios ? is there any way to tell ? MERCEDES 200/300 (C124 / S124 / W124) 300D Diesel, 300TD Turbo Diesel, 300 4-Matic 2996 603 717.430, 717.433 RE: The 5speed thread. - oel_brenner - 01-23-2009 here is a good trans reference I found.. http://www.mobilverzeichnis.de/mercedes_getriebecodes.htm still trying to figure out what the diff is between those two manual boxes RE: The 5speed thread. - giezy - 02-15-2009 how rare is a 89 300d with a 5 speed and will it bolt to a 617 they said it has a 6cyl witch engine would that be? I can get the car for a grand don,t know how good it runs RE: The 5speed thread. - ForcedInduction - 02-15-2009 There is no such thing as an 89 300D unless you are in Europe. What they likely have is a 300E. Nothing of the 190 series or anything made 1986+ will bolt to a 617. RE: The 5speed thread. - giezy - 02-16-2009 that what i thought a 300e came with a diesel though didn't it? they were 6 cyl to arn't they whant to go look any way. I have a 617 I want to put in to a comanche but want to go with a stick and play with the pump and turbo. I know about the 240d four speed I have beenlooking for one for awhile RE: The 5speed thread. - ForcedInduction - 02-16-2009 (02-16-2009, 12:05 PM)giezy that what i thought a 300e came with a diesel though didn't it? they were 6 cyl to arn't they whant to go look any way. I know about the 240d four speed I have beenlooking for one for awhile The W124 chassis only had a diesel (300D) in 1987. As I said, nothing from the 190 series or anything made from 1986 onwards will bolt to a 617. RE: The 5speed thread. - winmutt - 02-16-2009 Anyone got pics of 265's? RE: The 5speed thread. - giezy - 02-23-2009 (02-16-2009, 10:13 PM)winmutt Anyone got pics of 265's? what are 265? I am going to tear the truck apart this weekend and see how hard it would bee to make a adapter plate to use a ax15 thats in the jeep now. I have been taking with a guy that has already started to play with that and is looking into having a bell cast to do this! that would open up a few doors for the jeep just who whant 4wd the nv3550 is a direct replacement for the ax15 but has a very low first gear RE: The 5speed thread. - Graminal95 - 02-23-2009 (02-16-2009, 10:13 PM)winmutt Anyone got pics of 265's? I guess that means me and my 265 install. Here is a link to the rest of my 265 photos. http://picasaweb.google.com/GWCullen/Getrag265Tranny RE: The 5speed thread. - winmutt - 02-24-2009 Excellent. I poked around a few BMW last weekend, the 260's are avail by the dozen. I am looking for cheap internals to keep my build down. RE: The 5speed thread. - giezy - 02-24-2009 (02-24-2009, 02:51 PM)winmutt Excellent. I poked around a few BMW last weekend, the 260's are avail by the dozen. I am looking for cheap internals to keep my build down. are the bmw the same trans? wouldn't mind one for the 300td i just got! RE: The 5speed thread. - Graminal95 - 02-24-2009 The BMW internals are really expensive, but I hear the 265's are good for 450+ hp all day long and are long lived. So as long as it has not been run low on oil, I think it will last forever in a MB. I just sent my proto bell to a guy in FL from the mercedesshop to put up on a CMM and see if I missed something with the alignment. I have a vibration that I can't get rid of, so the 4 speed is in until the spring, or until we can find the source of the vibration. RE: The 5speed thread. - giezy - 02-25-2009 this is the car I was going to look at but found out it was in alberta with a busted timing chain! it has a rebuilt 5 speed! RE: The 5speed thread. - d40navara - 10-13-2009 hi all I am new to this fourm I have read this thread and one asking what manual to put behind a 190d . So far I have gathered a 190e 5spd will bolt to the 190d except the fly wheel. I have a 190d and have access to a 190e 5spd complete both cars run so my question would be where can I get a flywheel ? And what else might stuff me? Both 190 s are australian same year model the 190d isn't turbo . Any help would be great as I intend to start removing faulty auto in a few days and attempt to fit manual box . lucky for me I have access to hundreds of old to new mercs of all shapes and sizes so I wonder if aother flywheel might work ? Thanks Daniel whitbread RE: The 5speed thread. - winmutt - 10-14-2009 That is an excellent question. You can use the 190e one but it will be to light. Did you try asking the local dealership? I bet you can have one made for $600 as a last resort. They can be found on ebay here in the states as well but with shipping might be cheaper to make your own. I paid around $600 for mine new from the dealer. RE: The 5speed thread. - d40navara - 10-14-2009 so the 190e one will fit ! Because it is to light I'm guessing very rough idle what other probs could it cause ? as I might be able to turn up a weight on the lathe and bolt it to flywheel depending on design of flywheel. I'm sure I could find some one to balance it cheap . I will try mb dealer but generally they don't want to know about older than 1990 models and if you push I'm sure they will just tell me a price so expensive you would be better buying the latest mb with full options. But you never know . RE: The 5speed thread. - ForcedInduction - 10-14-2009 It will run with the 190e flywheel, but you'll get poop for torque off the line and have to keep the idle higher than normal. Even the 190D 2.2 flywheel will be heavier. |
