I vote for CVT!

RE: High stall torque converter - willbhere4u - 10-31-2010

I vote 6spd manual and OM606

(10-31-2010, 02:08 PM)willbhere4u Here's the video I made of the car staying at 3k from 35-70mph under partial throttle 50-70% evan through a shift point

Yeah, thats a failed torque converter.

That's awesome. Couldn't find much on them as far as videos and stuff goes... I may have seen one in an old military truck that a big moving company had. Name of the company is Bigge. Anyway I don't know how many cylinders it had but it was a V motor with 2 roots blowers ( both gear driven, one facing front and one facing back) and twin turbo's. That truck sat in an open dirt lot for about a month, I was thinkin about a joy ride lol. It had all the military stuff still inside, gun rack included!

The weird part is that it doesn't slip at full throttle!

RE: High stall torque converter - willbhere4u - 11-01-2010

Its got to be the Torque Converter!

I disconnected the vacuum to the trans modulator tonight to get some more line pressure to see if that would help the shifting and there was no difference in the way the car shifts still to soft!

I could hear the transmission shifting harder but couldn't feel it the weird part is that at full throttle it works great it has nice firm shifts!

But any thing less than full throttle and it feels like it's flaring on all the shifts! even at like 10% throttle

I guess it a good thing! It's like having a 3000rpm lock up converter it has awesome torque while it sits a 3k rpm and acceleration is really good while the TC is slipping!

I guess its time to save up and tune up an OM606 when the funds are ready!

I bet that will kill the rest of the Torque converter! Than it's time for an SLK 6spd!

Kids, the playground is thata way...

Honestly, while very funny, these pissing matches are hard to clean up after when done...
