Both are M pump. But in the W210 the mechanical governor was replaced with the EDC governor.

EDC and mechanical pumps share the same elements but the difference is there is no governor on the pump, it is controlled by the ECU. It is only a simple solenoid that moves the rack and the rack position sensor in the pump.  Wink

The 606 turbo pump has bigger 6mm elements versus 5.5 elements in the older pumps.
Those elements can be swapped right over to older mechanical pumps and they work perfectly   Smile

it's a mecanical system to prevent over rev and control the amount of fluel injected depanding how much you press on the "gas" pedal. (short explanation)

hy petar, do u happen to know how is the rack position measured?
does it have anything to do with the imput voltage suplied to the electroactuator? or it is a completely dif circuitry?

Haven't seen the guts of those in person but from what i gathered on the internet it is NOT a simple potentiometer. It is a variable inductance sensor called HDK. Actually there are two of them because inductance varies a lot with many factors such as tempetature. So there is one that is fixed to provide a reference value for measuring and another one that measures the rack position. You CAN'T just connect 5V to it and get a variable output, you need to feed it with high frequency AC voltage and measure the current draw. Designing a circuit that will accurately do this is not easy.

The actuator is pretty much indepedent of the sensor, it is a simple solenoid driven with PWM DC power.

This guy made his own controller for electronic pumps but only works for VE pumps since those have a potentiometer rack position sensor, and that couldn't be easier to read. But he is trying to figure out the HDK sensor and once he does this will be plug and play.

once that signal is deciphered, it sounds good for controlling a variable vane turbo (or even a supercharger).
