RE: Adding a tachometer - 4rnnr33 - 04-17-2011 Actually from looking at this thread it looks like it would be easy to just add a w terminal to pretty much any alternator http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f28/how-tachofy-your-mk-1-diesel-31515.html RE: Adding a tachometer - Matej - 07-10-2016 Hello gentlemen, Sorry to bump this thread, but I am converting a 1993 190E 2.6 to diesel. Which components will I need to scavenge from a diesel W201 at the junkyard to get the tachometer working in my car? Thank you. RE: Adding a tachometer - EvoPeter - 07-11-2016 (07-10-2016, 07:54 AM)Matej Hello gentlemen, Only a tacho if it has the sender installed on the flywheel that reads the tooth of the starter ring. I have mounted tachos from w124 into w123 with om606 that way. I have installed tachos from w124 into w201 also. Just some minor mods to make em fitt. On the diesel cars, does the sender plug directly into the tachometer? On my gasoline M103 190E it goes into the ignition control module (pin #2). I also wondered if there is any chance that I could just use the gasoline tachometer and sender. I know on the gasoline cars the sender reads the tabs on the flywheel, and I actually do have the manual M103 flywheel with the three tabs. However, since it requires the ignition module, I do not know if it would work due to none of the other pins being connected to anything on the diesel engine (cam position sensor, coils, knock sensor, etc.). RE: Adding a tachometer - Tobulus - 07-12-2016 You can use a gas tachometer without problems, you can even drive it by the W-connector of the generator, you just have to change a resisor and a capacitor in the tach. So if I want it to read off the flywheel tabs like stock, will I just need to keep the ignition module plugged in? Thank you. |
