RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - willbhere4u - 10-02-2012 We just bought a new house so I have been tight on time and cash for a few months selling and working on other projects. Once we get settled in I'm going to go back to work on this car. It's my first house and l got lucky it has a large two car garage with a mechanics pit so it will be perfect for doing a transmission swap RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - DeliveryValve - 10-02-2012 Congrats on the house! RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - willbhere4u - 01-26-2013 New update I picked up an OM606 engine more specifically a 606.962 for the 300SDL I will be installing with the 6spd when time allows. RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - larsalan - 01-26-2013 woot, congrats. It sounds like 606 fever is going around here at std. RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - Bangaway - 01-26-2013 Damn, nice 606 motor ha ha. RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - willbhere4u - 01-27-2013 (01-26-2013, 10:12 PM)Bangaway Damn, nice 606 motor ha ha. thanks I will put it to good use RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - erling66 - 02-02-2013 Congratulations with your 606 engine But why do you plan to use a 603 oil filter housing on it? RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - TheDon - 02-02-2013 (02-02-2013, 04:05 AM)erling66 Congratulations with your 606 engine But why do you plan to use a 603 oil filter housing on it?So he can stick with the 603's oil cooler. The 603 uses different fittings for the oil cooler lines. RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - erling66 - 02-03-2013 (02-02-2013, 07:59 PM)TheDon(02-02-2013, 04:05 AM)erling66 Congratulations with your 606 engine But why do you plan to use a 603 oil filter housing on it?So he can stick with the 603's oil cooler. The 603 uses different fittings for the oil cooler lines. I am in the process of installing the filterhousing myself and I decided to use the 606 housing since it has the nice thermostat on the side. My 603 housing did not have one. RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - TheDon - 02-03-2013 I'm going with a 603 housing for my 606 swap so I can stick with the already installed cooler. Otherwise I would use the 606 and go all custom for the oil cooler. But we shall see RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - willbhere4u - 02-04-2013 I've heard that the om606 oil filter housing interferes with the w126 cruise control. But if you swap it with the om603 you need a 20mil space to keep it from hitting the intake manifold! But the cruise control will fit RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - Ksteen2 - 02-18-2013 where did you get that flywheel?? I'm mounting a six speed in my W123 myself :p RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - willbhere4u - 02-18-2013 I found it on ebay in England. I looked up sprinter clutch kit for the 2.2 CDI I guess the SMF single mass flywheel is a common upgrade for them! Here in the us all of the sprinter's are autos so I had to have it shipped Over here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-SPRINTER-2-2-CDI-SMF-FLYWHEEL-CLUTCH-KIT-REPLACEMENT-B-B-903-2-1-2000-/121050868077?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c2f31a96d RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - TheDon - 02-18-2013 Not bad for $300 or so. RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - willbhere4u - 02-18-2013 With shipping it was a lot more! The flywheel disc and pressure plate weighs around 48 pounds RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - kmaser - 02-18-2013 Out of curiosity what's the going price range for a 606A? RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - TheDon - 02-18-2013 (02-18-2013, 09:18 PM)kmaser Out of curiosity what's the going price range for a 606A? A lot of dollars. I believe the going rate is 12-1500. But I didn't exactly pay a fair price for my 606 Turbo RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - kmaser - 02-18-2013 I would pay that for one, just haven't had much luck locating one. RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - TheDon - 02-19-2013 Watch the other forums, I saw one or two for sale on benzworld and of course, ebay. RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - willbhere4u - 02-19-2013 also car-part.com look up 1998 e class engine RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - TheDon - 03-06-2013 I am going to start watching my u pull and pay for C class cars so I can nab a stick just to have. I swear one came in with a manual and I missed it. I really wish I worked 9am M-F so I could get to the yard at open and scope it out every day. RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - Suppatime - 05-02-2013 (02-18-2013, 11:55 AM)willbhere4u I found it on ebay in England. I looked up sprinter clutch kit for the 2.2 CDI I guess the SMF single mass flywheel is a common upgrade for them! Here in the us all of the sprinter's are autos so I had to have it shipped Over here Kits like this can handle the torque of the 606A? They advertise that they're good for applications up to 130 hp. RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - willbhere4u - 05-02-2013 It also has to handle the enormous weight off a sprinter with 130hp I think it will be just fine it is a 9.5inch clutch disc That's the largest Mercedes uses to the best of my knowledge of there cars. If it has any problems I'll get and modify a stronger pressure plate to get more clamping power. my car will make more power but it also weighs a lot less than a sprinter. RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - Suppatime - 05-05-2013 Will, have you mounted the 6-speed to your 606 yet with the clutch kit? I'm curious to fit, and any modifications to either the clutch or flywheel to get them to work. RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - DrewGerhan - 06-05-2013 I'm glad I found this thread. I want to get back into a diesel w126 and the SDL seems like the obvious choice for me. Fueling up a 7.3L Power Stroke gets old when I'm not hauling anymore. RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - willbhere4u - 06-06-2013 Soon I will be working on the 300sdl again! We just moved to the new house last week after several months of renovations that still aren't completely finished yet. And the transmission pit in the garage works as described! I had to swap a Getrag 265 in my 528e because of bad lay shaft bearings to get it back on the road again to replace my Subaru Legacy. RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - Simpler=Better - 06-06-2013 (06-06-2013, 10:33 AM)willbhere4u Soon I will be working on the 300sdl again! We just moved to the new house last week after several months of renovations that still aren't completely finished yet. And the transmission pit in the garage works as described! I had to swap a Getrag 265 in my 528e because of bad lay shaft bearings to get it back on the road again to replace my Subaru Legacy. Can you post a pic of the 265's shift linkage or describe it? I've seen one without the stick and it boggles my mind RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - willbhere4u - 06-07-2013 The linkage will be different for every model. But it operates the same its one lever on the back of the transmission it pushes in and pulls out and turns from Left to right it basically works in reverse of the shifter. there is a ball on the end of the linkage on the transmission side like a wobbly extension except round. It has a hole for a pin to slide through. the linkage pops over the ball then the pin goes through the hole to keep the linkage from spinning. then a round cover/spring clip slides over that pin both sides to keep the pin in place which allows the linkage to turn the rod from L-R RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - willbhere4u - 01-27-2014 I finally opened space up in my 4 car garage for a 5th car so when the weather is nicer I can pull the om603 and auto transmission out of the 300sdl. The om606.962 is sitting on a pallet in my garage next to my flywheel/clutch kit and 6spd manual transmission. I Just need a couple long weekends and some nice weather to get started. RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - DrewGerhan - 08-17-2014 Well.... how is the project coming??? RE: Will's 1987 300sdl - DrewGerhan - 06-24-2015 No more updates? |
