What is the whole purpose of the LSD differential? I'm confused

Never mind I got it, limited slip

RE: MB 300SD oldtimer - 300SD_KY - 08-11-2012

Making the old new again. Love this build.

I had no problems with Elbe LSD kit, worked as promised, maybe you installed it wrong Huh

(01-04-2010, 03:59 PM)JTY Exhaust manifold done by KKDMotorsport
Turbo and manifold installed, looks much better than the original mini turbo Smile

Around April 2009 it was time for first start.
Everything worked okay and the engine started nicely.
Video at youtube

I had some other projects whole summer and the 300SD was standing in garage.
But around December 2009 I decided it was time to re-start the project.
Everything else was ready, only intake manifold was missing, so it was time to start build and custom intake. I had in mind to use original turbo intake but noticed quite quickly that it was bad idea Dodgy

So i started from scratch:

New intake fits nicely with new exhaust manifold:

As the turbo was without wastegate I installed and external wastgate:
Here are the latest shots from last weekend, made some thermal wrapping around manifold and few finishing touches:

Engine works nicely with boost, needs few things before going to dyno.
Also going to install my latest version of supermeter:

Very cool stuff indeed! With your supermeter, do you monitor TPC? Can you give a little info on your sensors like where you are mounting them and what kind you are using?

RE: MB 300SD oldtimer - Simpler=Better - 10-24-2012

Beautiful!

Did you bore out the ports on the head?

How much was that amazing exhaust manifold?

Yes the heads was ported pretty extensive also valves was changed and modified.

Custom exhaust for OM617A is around 500-600euros at KKD
Mine was first one made for OM617 so it's the prototype Big Grin

Thanks Big Grin
TPC stands for what Smile
I'm using custom sensors that are built myself, i use special
industry grade extra fast temperature sensors, same with pressure and exhaust. IAT is mounted after cooler before manifold inlet, EGT/EXP is mounted right before turbo, OILT is before oil cooler and TRANST is before trans cooler.

RE: MB 300SD oldtimer - Simpler=Better - 11-07-2012

Would you be kind enough to share any photos/ details of the head work you did? I went easy on my head, the cutaway diagrams I've seen show really thin walls in the head.

(06-13-2010, 04:56 AM)JTY Some update, I installed a LSD unit in the diff

Few shots of the LSD unit:

Empty diff case

Looks good

Middle shaft seems to be in good shape

Spiders are pretty bad

LSD unit installed

Gear ratio

It's no much more fun to drive and it's very stable when you do an fast launch.

does this LSD unit fitt in all w126 differentails??
i would like to get one and to know where you got it from.

peter

i found it already

Yes it fits all, you can get seperate units for 124 etc.

Okay i will try to find the pics from the port job. Should be somewhere on my backup drive Smile
In my head there was plenty of space to make the channels bigger, original channels are very small with tight curves Sad

Yes it's a 300SD and it was only sold in US Big Grin
Get the higher speedometer from some old 300SD.

RE: MB 300SD oldtimer - kmaser - 03-09-2013

For the oil supply to the turbo are you feeding it full engine oil pressure or is the stock 2mm restrictor hole still in the system. I had an MP R444-2 and without the restricted it forced oil past the seals turbine and compressor side, I have some other issues to sort out as well but I need a new turbo as a result and want to go bigger than I had with my (6.5mm elements) I think the stock exh. Manifold is too restrictive, I don't see yours on the kkd website so do you know if its available still?

Yes it's done with full engine oil pressue, with custom steel braided hose and AN connectors to get maximum oil flow. Had no issues with the seals and this hose set was done & approved by Master Power expert/imported Anton Murola from hevosvoima.com Smile
Maybe you had some other issues with the system, like really restricted oil return as that's going to cause seal problems if pressure side flows too much. I made oil return of big copper pipe to have as little as possible restriction on return side (this was also consulted with Anton)

My KKD manifold was first of it's kind a prototype manifold, you should ask Kalle to build one for you as he should still have the jigs for it.

Have since moved to E85 cars, no diesels anymore in our family Tongue

RE: MB 300SD oldtimer - JTY - 06-10-2017

(05-18-2017, 01:50 PM)winmutt How's the LSD holding up?

It did'nt hold for long, I needed to change even stiffer springs and after that
I got the grip I wanted. No serious problems after that, just need to use quality
oil in the diff ( I use MAG1 85W-140 diff oil)
