RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 03-01-2014 Was out and got the hoses to oil and oilreturn today Welded ut the pipes Made a suport to the lower turbo and one on the pipe that holds the big turbo Then I made the manifold finish, welded up the v-band and got in the fittings to exhausttemp and exhaustpressure all finish The airside is so much easier then the exhaustside RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - EDH_Performance - 03-02-2014 So left to do is port and polish the manifolds and pipes? Looks very good there Alex RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - F.R.A.S - 03-02-2014 Please do not polish I'm allergic to polished stuff Looks good. Just some paint on that stuff and it will look like a stock installation. RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - EDH_Performance - 03-02-2014 (03-02-2014, 12:59 PM)F.R.A.S Please do not polish I'm allergic to polished stuff In polish we ask not, we do! RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 03-04-2014 Neh, dont think I will polish them, I will wrap all that can be wrapped Remowed the head yesterday Had a little surprise when I remowed the camshafts, the drive in the intake cam had slipped, and moved 2-3mm of the camshaft. This morning I was on KM Cams and picked up new walvesprings, and had the cam with me. compaired it to a stock Om606 camshaft he had, he measured it and it had also moved 1mm sideways! Guess I was lucky then, this whould have been a serious brakedown anytime! :O RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - sorin_cel - 04-05-2014 you mean the pin where sprocket sits on the camshaft had moved??? RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 04-20-2014 Time to update this a bit, have not been so much time for this, and it has also matched the wallet Here are some pics of the the New walvesprings and washers from KM Cams And of the cams the drive on the intake cam have been adjusted right by KM again! Now this will not move again!!! Now I only need New valvesealings and headbolts to build the engine up again I have also had problem With the oilpan being the lowest point, so i have spited it and taken out about 3,5cm Have also done some work on the front suspension, and the New EBC discs from Nissan Skyline R32 GTR have been redrilled to fit the 4x114 hubs. The disc size is 296x32mm Did some adjustments on the coils mounted in the new pads in the calipers, witch also are from R32 GTR only needs new bolts to mount the calipers. Tightened all suspension up, and then I needed to widen the steeringarms Got new studs, but they were to small in the splines, so needs new. Hope I can start rebuild the engine very soon RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - F.R.A.S - 04-21-2014 Nice, looks good mate. Keep it up. RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - giuliettaevo - 04-23-2014 Very nice project! Will definetely surprise a few people. Also love the wheels... We did something similar wit an old VW jetta which we gave an OM606 and rwd. For my old Alfa Romeo Giulia i'm looking for a nice powerful diesel engine but it has a rather short engine bay. The OM606 doesn't fit for sure but maybe the OM605 will. Could you tell me the total length of the engine from crankpulley to the rear of the block where the box goes? RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - hansebanger77 - 04-25-2014 (04-23-2014, 03:35 PM)giuliettaevo Very nice project! Will definetely surprise a few people. Also love the wheels... I saw your jetta at reifnitz :-) RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - giuliettaevo - 04-26-2014 It's my friends car, i just build it with him. He went to the VW meeting. Surprized quite a few people there.. RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - F.R.A.S - 06-22-2014 Time to update Alex We all like to see your car on the track again. Gatebil @Rudskogen 2014 RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Simpler=Better - 06-23-2014 I really like the pinned cam gear, that's the way to do it RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 06-25-2014 Yeah, its time to update this! Have done some work on the engine, now and then, but havent had the time to update. Will come a big update very soon, maybe this weekend RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 06-29-2014 (04-23-2014, 03:35 PM)giuliettaevo Very nice project! Will definetely surprise a few people. Also love the wheels...Thanks! I think the engine is 74-75cm long, but I can measure it when Im back in the garage I saw the videos of the Jetta, looks fun! And here in the update! Here are Picture of the valveseat before and after grinding with grindingpaste, as you see the exhaustports are not good! Head with new KM Cams valvesprings and springwashers I also grinded over all ports on intake and exhaust side to even out any edges etc. Head on, with new gasket had to grind down the valvespacers a bit to fit on the valves, also from KM Cams Cambridge, lifters and camshaft in, the red stuff is a drivein-paste for camshafts all in The headcover is painted and mounted, and I have got the new oilpump from 270CDI. This is lower to fit in the oilpan, and some says it is better on high revs The pickup tube is shorted in to fit he pan, other than that, plug and play! And F-Tune Performance in Sweden have made this custom intake manifold to me, this will guaranty good flow and even airflow to each sylinder! The oilpan was welded yesterday, so maybe there is a startup next week?? RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Turbo - 06-29-2014 it would be very interesting to see the calculation about VE efficiency before and after to see how much it was improved RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 07-01-2014 Engine back in one piece! RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Tito - 07-01-2014 I love this ride! RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 07-03-2014 Thanks! RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - F.R.A.S - 07-04-2014 Looks great RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - rafael cotrim - 07-04-2014 pretty awesome RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 07-05-2014 Thanks! Today I took out the spare gearbox, and it got new oil The boxes are the same outside, and pretty much the same inside, sligth difference on some gears But no 3.gear burnout while standing still With this Box :p I timed the pump 2 degrees and had the lid of the pump and turned up the max revs. It should be around 6500rpm now LIftet the body up on stands and put the gearbox on the engine. Then it was time to put the Madness into the car was alone today, but got it in! maybe a test start tomorrow or monday! RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - StrikerofDeath - 07-05-2014 I love this project! but ... you add more power, one more turbo and reduce oil capacity of engine? at high rpm you have oil in pan for engine? I will continue follow the project, this fabulous! good luck! RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 07-06-2014 Thanks! the oilpan is a litle lower now, but not that much it still have a capasaty of 4l in the sump becouse of the tight space in the bay ut was not build out now, but might do that in the winter again sinse we now can measure the clearance the reason to reduse the hight of the oilpan is that tha car is to litle to fit this high engine, oilpan would have been smashed if I had gone of track as it was RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 07-07-2014 It has started, and its so much more brutal now!! RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - StrikerofDeath - 07-07-2014 see this http://www.tuning.online.pt/forum/sx-s13-t71872p18.html # post917006 you can make the oil pan shorter but larger! good sound! make more video! RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Sotvisp - 07-08-2014 This must be the best Toyota in the world !! RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 07-08-2014 I know how to make the pan wider, but this is not a big ass Mercedes, Space is luxury here but I might be able to build it a bit out on one side to the Winter RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Simpler=Better - 07-08-2014 (07-08-2014, 02:39 AM)Stamsaas I know how to make the pan wider, but this is not a big ass Mercedes, Space is luxury here but I might be able to build it a bit out on one side to the Winter You could dry sump it and be a hero releasing the specs RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 07-09-2014 Thanks Sotvisp! its not so much Toyota left, so maybe thats why? Will go back to the garage today, try to do some more anyone have experience with racecams, should the timing be the same, or should it be slighly different because of the Cams? I have to cut of some of the tube in on the new manifold, its a bit to long for the bay, but rest of it fits like a glove! RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - MFSuper90 - 07-09-2014 Bigger Cams have to be set with a degree wheel to be correctly timed We had to do this on my Perkins when we put a big cam in it. RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 07-09-2014 The camshafts have been set up by KM Cams, it is the pump timing that i Wonder about. Someone here must have swaped cams before?? RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - raysorenson - 07-10-2014 Strictly speaking of theory, an increase in volumetric efficiency often requires retarded combustion. RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - MFSuper90 - 07-10-2014 (07-09-2014, 08:01 PM)Stamsaas The camshafts have been set up by KM Cams, it is the pump timing that i Wonder about. Someone here must have swaped cams before?? Are we talking about the injection pump cam? So are you wondering if you should change timing since you got a different cam? RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - winmutt - 07-10-2014 717.430 trans? RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 07-13-2014 (07-10-2014, 11:28 AM)raysorenson Strictly speaking of theory, an increase in volumetric efficiency often requires retarded combustion. Retarded, will that say earlier og later? (not that good English) (07-10-2014, 01:47 PM)MFSuper90(07-09-2014, 08:01 PM)Stamsaas The camshafts have been set up by KM Cams, it is the pump timing that i Wonder about. Someone here must have swaped cams before?? No, I have now race intake and exhaust camshafts in the engine, and I wonder how this effects the timing point of the fuelpump And if anyone have any experience with this (07-10-2014, 01:59 PM)winmutt 717.430 trans?I had 717.435 but the 3.gear didnt take it when I tried to turn rubber Now I put in a 717.411 gearbox I have also got a Tilton clutch valve now, and this will make the gearbox life better RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Petar - 07-13-2014 Retarded means later, advanced means earlier. Are you asking should you change the timing of the injection pump because you have different cams ? I don't know maybe.Only one way to find out. Try changing the timing try retarded and try advanced and see what gives the best result on power and EGTs etc. Trial and error RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 07-13-2014 Thanks! Yeah, I think that is the way to do it I hope I will get it in a dyno this year, and there I can test it quite good RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - MFSuper90 - 07-13-2014 I do know if you advance the timing EGT's will drop, and advanced timing makes bigger power on top end. When we put the Big Cam in my Perkins we adjusted the timing on the dyno and set it to where it made the most HP RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 07-14-2014 think it will be finetuning in the dyno It work good enought for now RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - F.R.A.S - 07-16-2014 Awesome =) RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Gasoil - 07-19-2014 Hi Stamsaas, you use valve cap lash from KM to give again the same measure between hydraulic follower and new regrinded cams? The hydraulic follower not lift at the new cam regrinded lobe when engine is started by oil pressure? For example in gas engines with hydraulic followers you can fit racing cams with more lift, and no valve cap lashs are used. I checked the N/A OM606 intake cam and has 1,3mm more lift than OM turbo one, fitted to the engine and all OK (bad luck a small plastic piece from fuel tubes fittings went into an intake valve of cyl 5 , started without manifold, and a intake valve was bent). RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 07-25-2014 Hi, I have spacers on the intake valves if it is theese you are thinking of; They are only on the intake side, this is because the hydraulic lifters only makes about 1mm more lift than oem. The exhaust side have about 1mm more lift, so the lifters take that, and the intake have about 2mm more lift, så they are spaced 1mm When I was at KM cams and picked up cams, he had taken one N/A cam and one turbo cam and measured them, and he said that the N/A cam had about 1mm more lift, but that the duration or what it is (not my field) made ha cam so much milder, that he could not se any gain in performance using N/A cam. He ment that it might be some slightly difference if you got them timed good, but cams must be grinded to get performance Now; a little update Picked up my new driving Chair And the manifolds have been machined so the flenges are straight, and I was out on a local farm and had them sand blasted. So than I just had to Mount them Here with new coppergasket, exhaust pressure and backpressure on Place wrapped the last bits first turbo mounted, and the supportbar on the underside now it startet to get a bit tighter... The tube to the wastegate was the only tube that was made outside the car, and the only that did not fit in the car..... So had to make som more room with the hammer! suddenly much more room, Next turbo pleace! Had to remake the fittings to the oilreturn, it hit with the support bar to the turbo etc. But I made it. Its tight to get Down 2x oilreturn etc. Engine have run with both turbos on This will start building pressure from the first touch on the trothle Took out the rear axle to get the diff swapped. The oil had a rather fancy color :p part out on the table well... dont have to tell you what have made noise here Had 3.73:1 ratio but are now swapping to 3.54:1 to get it a bit longer RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - F.R.A.S - 07-28-2014 Awesome. Soon we'll need a video of the BEAST running RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Gasoil - 07-28-2014 OK Stamsaas, I understand.... On fact I purchased from KM Cams some cap lash (spacers at top valve) to an engine I build for my Fiat Uno Turbo, a modified 1.6 16V engine from Bravo stroked to 1.885cc. Hydras tappets stock changed to Cat Cams mech ones. Well, when I have my OM 606 installed I can go to dyno and check numbers with the stock intake turbo cam and another day the N/A intake cam fitted, to compare the numbers, but correct timing of N/A cam can be a mistery for me, try with stock timing. RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 08-11-2014 Would have been great if you could have done that! Since last time I have got the cooler back from Welding, and got some brackets for it. The intake manifold is a bit big, so had to cut it Down a bit, here it is resting against radiator :p There are alot extras With to turbos, everything x2 :p So I cut down the manifold, and made a plan over the pressure gate. And cut out the frond arces and fitted the wider universal ones Made the tube between the turbos Pressure regulator for both turbos are on, and have made the tube from turbo too cooler Custom all the way! Only thing that have more room now is the airfilter! Downpipe is started on, 3,5" is bog to get trough and down! :p just have to make a custom angeled 4" to 3" adapter and the engine sould be ready to be started With pressure! RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - F.R.A.S - 08-15-2014 Ohhh damn we should have built the intake manifold in the car But just a short radius 3" and you should be good... Looks awesome anyhow. Can't wait till we can see it run. RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 08-29-2014 Last weekend I was out on the track, and after som adjustments the compound started working! And mother of... as this Works New trackday on tueasday, will drive again then! boosting 3bar+ now, needs a gauge that goes longer :p RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Turbo - 08-30-2014 Going to dyno? RE: Norwegian OM605 build -> 1980 Ke70 Corolla - Stamsaas - 08-30-2014 Yes, I have plan on going to a dyno this year can update some more, have been to little time to do this before the trackday start with a litle videoclip Last thursday evening I had the first test run with the car this year, the day before trackday! 3,5" downpipe on its place, made up with the rest of exhaust that is 3" Friday morning ready to hit the track, had to make a little hole in the Hood HOLSET! Friday I drove some heats and tested and adjusted it a bit, but didnt got the turbos to work as good as the setup should do, but found out after last driving that I had to make some changes. Saturday I loosened up the wastegate on the big turbo and trew in stiffer springs in the bypass wastegate And this made the trick! there was no more driving on saturday, but sunday it was on it again, and it was a complete different car, starting boosting from bottom, and have 3+bar from 3000rpm too 6500rpm Popped a boostpipe at first lap, and another started leak after 2-3 laps on next heat, with was the last heat of the day. now it really works, and I can start give it some more fuel to get the power here are some pics from the weekend; |
