RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 08-07-2011 Been driving the thing and went to cars and coffee irvine yesterday. It's funny how many people are so confused by my car lol. The only problem I've had was my #4 glowplug wire fell off and shorted on the injection pump blowing the fuse in the controller. Other than that it's been great. I really love the new rear gears. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 08-23-2011 Had a motor mount go bad. Car vibrates like crazy. It seems I had a small fuel leak and it turned the driver side mount to mush. Gonna be a fun one to change. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - Oil Burner - 08-23-2011 Hey Jesse If you sell this your nuts it looks like you have too much fun in it. Car has a nice sound and stance...Cant wait to get mine going. Please Dont sell we need to keep your thread going so we can see all the Feud Going too! RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 08-23-2011 Thanks. I've been trying to source a set of adjustable spring perches. I'm going with a few people to a vw meet to crash it so to say and I want this thing to be slammed but be able to bring it back up later. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - iheartboost - 08-23-2011 yea thats the only thing. these cars tend to have a lack of low. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - Oil Burner - 08-24-2011 Why not air bag it you are a master fabricator.... it's on my list to do to my car RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 08-24-2011 I want suspension that I can play in the twistys and autox. I'm not in it just for the looks. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - CJP28 - 08-24-2011 (08-23-2011, 11:40 AM)Oil Burner Hey Jesse If you sell this your nuts it looks like you have too much fun in it. Car has a nice sound and stance...Cant wait to get mine going. I agree ^. You have been an inspiration to me, to my '79 300SD. I admire your W116, I want to make mine as near as fast and low as yours. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 10-07-2011 New motor mount and primer pump and she's back to 100%. As a matter of fact I'm taking a road trip as we speak. I love my w116. Average cruise speed is about 85: 3100rpm RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - mike-81-240d - 10-08-2011 How hard was the primer pump? I still have yet to do mine. It's killing my cold starts, and mileage... RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 10-08-2011 Took 30 seconds lol. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - larsalan - 10-08-2011 If I pump mine by hand fuel spills all out of it. Do you think it needs replacing? It's the kind you have to unscrew to pump it and then screw it back together when you're done. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - Captain America - 10-11-2011 (10-08-2011, 05:31 PM)larsalan If I pump mine by hand fuel spills all out of it. Do you think it needs replacing? It's the kind you have to unscrew to pump it and then screw it back together when you're done. Yea that white one is know to go bad. You want to replace it with the black one! RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - larsalan - 10-11-2011 Well I have a black one on my other pump. So, maybe I'll swap them. Can't afford a new one but I can afford a gasket RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 11-16-2011 I broke it. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - garage - 11-16-2011 uh oh... broke what exactly? RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - Captain America - 11-16-2011 Still think the a rod is bent? RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 11-16-2011 No I think it's a precup or something. I ingested water and it misses out of boost now. Im going to pull the precups and have a look. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - Captain America - 11-16-2011 I feel additions to the fail thread coming along soon.... RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - mike-81-240d - 11-17-2011 OM606 time?... RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - hansebanger77 - 11-17-2011 (11-17-2011, 01:33 AM)mike-81-240d OM606 time?... RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - iheartboost - 11-17-2011 ewwww hydo lock :/ RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 11-18-2011 I dunno yet. I haven't diagnosed it yet. My transmission just decided to asplode in my ford today. I'll prob open it up on Saturday. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - sassparilla_kid - 11-18-2011 Fixing the transmission is probably easier than replacing the stupid heater core in our '99 F150, which I've had to do twice RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - led-panzer - 11-18-2011 It will be interesting to see what it is, BRABUS said the same thing happened to his engine and we never found out what it was. Haven't heard from him since. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 11-18-2011 Mine was a water crossing. My alternator funnels water into the intake apparently. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - iheartboost - 11-18-2011 well thats no fun :/ RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 11-21-2011 Ok at this time i think it has broken rings. I've narrowed it down to cyl 5 and I've changed the injector, precup, checked the valves. It sounds like it has plenty of compression (my tester won't clear the oil housing). When I had the precup out I looked in and checked how high the piston comes up. It seems to be good. I'm going to get a jy motor and port the he's and do a minor build on it. I also found out that the precups my engine has are larger than the spares I had laying around. I put a spare in and it didn't change how it ran it actually cause a fuel knock too. So I put mine back in. I also have 115 bar injectors. I swapped delivery valves and everything. Still misses and runs rough under ~2500 and out of boost. Once boost kicks in it runs perfect. My precups are marked 617/03 RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 11-22-2011 still stumped. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - iheartboost - 11-23-2011 hey it sounds like mine in the beginning! i hear that untill i rev it up and blow all the crap out. so i guess im missing alot in when i first start it up. but dam. wonder what it could be. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 11-23-2011 You prob have a bad glow plug if it's after you start it. Mine was at 175° after driving home from work. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - Hercules - 11-23-2011 Poss. sticky injector. Test: listen to injector . Place listening aid( screw driver?) on top of injector or on metal fuel line, compare against noise from other injectors. Injectors can stick or bind when cold and be ok after warming a bit,and can also stick or bind at lower rpms. Good luck. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 01-26-2012 Well. I pulled the head off finally and found that the #5 cyl has a bent rod. Notice the top of the cylinders where the rings don't touch on #5 is about 10mm lower than the rest. I put 5-600 miles on it like this lol. As for what I'm going to do? I found another w116 locally that I may buy to pull the engine and trans from. If not I'll junkyard a engine and go through it a little. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - iheartboost - 01-26-2012 never stops running!! that makes me sad hope i dont have a bent rod lol. oh well if i do ill have to source some 606 rods and just boost the hell out of it RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - Captain America - 01-31-2012 Take the blue car from me. Its still got the 617 in it RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - 300SD_KY - 02-01-2012 if y're still looking for performance springs, kevin at k-mac in australia makes them ... he quoted me: sales@k-mac.com wrote: Hi, We manufacture front and rear springs in any height required, uprated 30%, these are priced at $US245 a pair. They are heavy items, so UPS Air freight would amount to $150 for four. Other items we manufacture for these models is a rear camber and toe adjuster kit, priced at $US330, individually by UPS Air this would be $70, if ordered with the springs it would add just $15 to the shipping bill. When lowered, the W116 suffers bad inside edge tire wear, so this bolt-on kit is a must to alleviate that problem! You can order by e.mail, phone or fax (numbers below) using your Mastercard or Visa. Regards, Kevin RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 02-02-2012 I had 2 spare motors but I just scrapped one so the other will be missing a con rod soon. I'm to busy working on my truck and playing on the weekends lol. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - Simpler=Better - 02-02-2012 Sounds like it's time for forged rods! I read somewhere that running over 2bar (with proper fueling) will bend the rods RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - sassparilla_kid - 02-02-2012 2 bar is a lot, I can't even run 1 bar in my car.... yet!! RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - bad3gakk - 02-02-2012 Awesome ride Ive seen a 617 been molested with 2,7bars for a long time.... it normally doesnt happend anything other than head gasket fails... the bendt rod? something seriously wrong is done there... RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 02-03-2012 We had some heavy rains and my alternator belt funnels water into my intake and it filled the bottom of my intercooler up while I was idling through a water crossing. When I went to take off it forced all that water into the engine and it didn't compress so well lol. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - yankneck696 - 02-03-2012 Snorkel time !!! Ed RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - SurfRodder - 03-06-2012 hey dude, what part of Diego are you in? It looks like maybe Jamul area, the pic at the beginning of this thread with your bronco appears to be near Lawson's peak... I go out there from time to time to work on my Jeep at a friends house and once I finish up school I'm gonna buy a house up there. edit: on second thought, it looks like it could also be in the Fernbrook-Ramona area... RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - iheartboost - 03-07-2012 hows it going jesse? any progress on fixing it? RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - Captain America - 03-11-2012 Jeemu Said 40 psi will bend the rods RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 05-31-2012 Update. Haven't had the time to mess with it. It's getting a new engine but it's not a Benz unfortunately. I got a 460/c6 combo for it. The local junkyards that used to have 3-4 good ones each had none last time I went looking. I traded my old Idi 7.3 for the 460 so that's what I'm going to cram in it. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - JB3 - 05-31-2012 (05-31-2012, 01:00 PM)dieselboy Update. Haven't had the time to mess with it. It's getting a new engine but it's not a Benz unfortunately. I got a 460/c6 combo for it. The local junkyards that used to have 3-4 good ones each had none last time I went looking. I traded my old Idi 7.3 for the 460 so that's what I'm going to cram in it. wow... Now this will be interesting. Whats the HP on that motor? is it about the same weight as the 617? Why didn't you cram the IDI 7.3 in and turbo charge it? Just had to say it, you knew it was coming RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - dieselboy - 05-31-2012 7.3 was turbo and it didn't fit. The 460 is being mildly built. 350hp/500tq is the goal. RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - JB3 - 06-01-2012 (05-31-2012, 05:01 PM)dieselboy 7.3 was turbo and it didn't fit. oooo, a turbo IDI 7.3? I love those, simple to repair and plenty of power and noise! Too bad it didn't fit, I recently saw one of those in a lincoln towncar, would be a beast of a motor jammed into the benz. Still, I guess a 460 V8 mildly built with 350hp will just have to do. *sigh* Glad you are keeping the car and repowering it. I loved PP forum member jgranziers 72 280se W108 with a chevy small block V8 and turbo 350 trans in it. It was bad ass, sounded great, a good combination of German comfort and American power and reliability. Im not impressed with the German gas V8s that were in some of these cars, just too complex and problematic. What are you going to do for a transmission? RE: Jesse's hy35 powered w116 - DeliveryValve - 06-01-2012 (05-31-2012, 05:01 PM)dieselboy 7.3 was turbo and it didn't fit. .. I think it would look something like what he tried to do with his 240 rally car.... . |
