what turbo do i have? and how do i turn it up and make it shiny - turbo85 - 01-14-2010 i have a 1985 mercedes-benz 300D turbo diesel on a w123 chassis, it has the 3.0liter (2998cc) L5, Direct injection, and what i believe is a garret turbocharger it says (air research) with raise letters on the side i was wondering? what kind of turbo is this? what size mm turbine does it have? what is its stock boost out put, its max out put capability? how do i clean it up to make it look like a show part? what paint/chemicals do i use to clean and paint it? and how do i increase my flow through the turbo manifold without forking out any dough?!!!!! i have drill, bored, and filed a large sequence of holes around the stock air intake lid and some along the side, and yes i was careful to make sure that no air got around the filter ( all air intake is still filtered through the stock filter). it used to go 0-60 in about 18.9 seconds now after the air intake mod it goes 0-60 in a rough 7.0-7.9 sec time also fuel economy increase, less smoke on start up, and better performance (captian obivious). RE: what turbo do i have? and how do i turn it up and make it shiny - winmutt - 01-14-2010 Rough being you counted? Those numbers are improbable. RE: what turbo do i have? and how do i turn it up and make it shiny - muuris - 01-15-2010 You'd better buy a stock, non-drilled filter lid and a new stock filter. Those numbers are impossible, you have to do quite a bit more to make it go 0-60 under 9sec. It think there is a lot of more important things to do than to make that tiny old (probably worn-out) Garrett look like a show-part. Don't even understand why would you even want to make it look like a show part, doesn't fit to W123 style and I bet your engine isn't too clean either.. but your choice, just some opinions. Now the tips: I've removed rust from old parts using citric acid. It's easy to use, non-toxic and cheap. At least in Finland you can buy it in agricultural shops, a lot cheaper than in pharmacist's. After the bath parts look a bit like they've been sandblasted, only that this will only eat rust. Pic 1. The Holset looked worse than the tiny Garrett before. Took the turbine and compressor housings off, let the turbine have a citric acid bath for couple of days and then brushed both housings with a steel/brass brush. Then I painted the turbine housing with header paint and heat treated it in the oven. Then polished compressor a bit, before I got bored and put everything back in place. Pic 2. Old BMW diesel exhaust manifold, half of it has had citric acid and brushing. It is NOT direct injection. RE: what turbo do i have? and how do i turn it up and make it shiny - turbo85 - 01-15-2010 i wonder if there is any way that my turbo's waste gate is int opening at the right time causing over boost, plus i forgot to mention that i have after market injector (performance), new injector pump, plus the previous owner had the block bored and had over sized piston, and rings put in the previous owner went crazy with money buy replacing and upgraping (the wrong parts) but it is nice to know that when he got tired of spending the car had gained about another 300,000miles in life expectancy. your right i was counting next time i will get a stop watch and then post the pics of both my car and my engines air intake lid also no one could tell me what mm turbo i have and what kind it is dude i thought this was the 2cnd best forum #1 bieng mbusa because u need a car and vin to join RE: what turbo do i have? and how do i turn it up and make it shiny - muuris - 01-15-2010 Performance injectors are pretty nonsense in indirect injection engines. MB stock ones are capable of at least 100hp/cyl.. RE: what turbo do i have? and how do i turn it up and make it shiny - willbhere4u - 01-15-2010 post a video of it accelerating please !!! lets see what it can do RE: what turbo do i have? and how do i turn it up and make it shiny - Einar - 01-21-2010 You probably hav a Garret T3 turbo |
