Help OIL Leak??? - W116Lorinser - 02-05-2010 i just installed my k26 turbo today to replace the older turbo. after 30 years of baked on bolts and other things i finally got it replaced and installed. i dont know what the peice is called but it the peice that right on top of the turbo with the 2 bolts and has a small gasket on it. the little gasket broke so i threw it away without a replacement and just tighted the bolts up and used the "gasket making silicone" from autozone. After i started the car it started to leak right away out the sides. is this because it specifically needs that gasket? and where do i find this gasket? ps. is this the peice? and its the turbo drain? will a new one stop the leak? http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/details/QQMercedes_BenzQQ300SDQQVictor_ReinzQQTurbo_Drain_GasketQQ19781985QQW0133-1643939.html?apwcid=P1135867996W43b3f85c7ab9e&gan=1&apwidMjZ5S86 RE: Help OIL Leak??? - Rudolf_Diesel - 02-05-2010 That is the oil feed for the turbo. You can just buy some gasket material and cut one out. I would stay away from silicone on anything that is involved with the oiling system. I once had a Datsun that had silicone block a passage and snapped the cam. You could even use a cereal box for the gasket material in a pinch. RE: Help OIL Leak??? - W116Lorinser - 02-05-2010 so its leaking because no gasket... correct? and it not something wrong because of the new turbo right? just getting paranoid when i see leaks... i always think the worst. RE: Help OIL Leak??? - willbhere4u - 02-05-2010 It needs a gasket in there! It has high pressure oil in there to lubricate it RE: Help OIL Leak??? - Rudolf_Diesel - 02-05-2010 ^^What he said - at 3 Bar you have 43.5 psi give or take. Most likely it is leaking because you do not have a gasket. RE: Help OIL Leak??? - W116Lorinser - 02-06-2010 But the exact same piece below the turbo doesnt have a gasket? Only the top one does? RE: Help OIL Leak??? - Rudolf_Diesel - 02-06-2010 (02-06-2010, 10:30 AM)W116Lorinser But the exact same piece below the turbo doesnt have a gasket? Only the top one does? They both should have a gasket, but the other side is not pressure fed, it is the drain line. RE: Help OIL Leak??? - W116Lorinser - 02-06-2010 what about these oil drain and retun kits on ebay ? they look nice and say they will work better? can it work as replacement? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120526944164&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT RE: Help OIL Leak??? - willbhere4u - 02-06-2010 It wont add any performance the stock parts work just fine for the stock turbo! Those kits are more useful if you plan on putting a non stock turbo on there! |
