FSM says to Replace manifold bolts - polarisrmk - 04-26-2010 I will be putting manifolds back on my om617.952 tomorrow and the FSM says to replace the nuts. I have done a few searches and have found some copper nuts. the stock nuts do not appear copper nor do they appear to be locking nuts. What should I do? reuse the stock ones or has anyone replaced with copper ones? RE: FSM says to Replace manifold bolts - ForcedInduction - 04-26-2010 Go to a hardware store and buy some 10mm grade 10.9 nuts and lock washers. Don't forget to use high temperature (silver or copper) antiseize on the studs, you'll thank yourself years down the road if you ever have to remove them! RE: FSM says to Replace manifold bolts - polarisrmk - 04-26-2010 (04-26-2010, 12:30 AM)ForcedInduction Go to a hardware store and buy some 10mm grade 10.9 nuts and lock washers. Sounds good I will pick some up tomorrow .... I am also missing one of the studs (engine came from the junkyard) is there anything special i should look for or just a 10 mm grade 10.9 stud? RE: FSM says to Replace manifold bolts - ForcedInduction - 04-26-2010 Most any stud will work well. I know Ace hardware has the correct length and depth studs available. A regular bolt can be used as well if no studs can be found. RE: FSM says to Replace manifold bolts - polarisrmk - 04-26-2010 (04-26-2010, 01:02 AM)ForcedInduction Most any stud will work well. I know Ace hardware has the correct length and depth studs available. What length do I need? I didn't pull any of the other studs out to check how far they go into the block. Also the FSM has no torque specs on these nuts .... I have heard ~25 nm does this sound about right? For the turbo too? I will make sure to use an alternating sequence when I torque them. RE: FSM says to Replace manifold bolts - ForcedInduction - 04-26-2010 (04-26-2010, 01:13 AM)polarisrmk What length do I need?10mm below surface and at least 50mm above (30mm for the first and last studs). Quote:Also the FSM has no torque specs on these nuts .... I have heard ~25 nm does this sound about right? For the turbo too?German torque (gutentight) with a normal 3/8" ratchet or wrench works well. A 10mm 10.9 stud takes quite a bit of effort to break. Haha will do .... Thanks for the help ... my first 617 major reseal/cleanup has been an experience for sure! |
