Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - bgkast - 04-05-2008 I don't know what brand they are, but my 240D has cross drilled rear brake rotors. What should I make of this? Re: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - winmutt - 04-06-2008 On a W123? Pull them off and look for manufacturer info! Re: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - bgkast - 04-06-2008 I will next time I have the wheel off. Re: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - MTUPower - 05-30-2008 any news? are they solid or vented? Re: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - bgkast - 05-31-2008 I'm don't remember if they are vented or not. There are no markings on the face of the rotors though. It seems as if there is tons of them on there, both front and rears. Its questionable because its ebay...but damn that would be sweet to have on all 4 corners, along with stainless brake lines. RE: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - Captain America - 10-01-2010 Word on the street is that cross drilled rotors wear the pads faster which is something thats not fun on a daily driven car... RE: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - garage - 10-01-2010 Like how much faster are we talking?? That makes sense..i guess i never thought about that. RE: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - Captain America - 10-01-2010 I have no idea, I've never run drilled or slotted rotors. But yeah they would act like a chease crater on the pads I guess... RE: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - bmwpowere36m3 - 10-01-2010 Cross-drilled rotors are totally pointless for the most part... too many specifics to get into. Especially on a DD, they are unnecessary and second even if cheaper on eBay I wouldn't trust my brakes/life to cheap chinese rotors. Cross-drilled rotors * more expensive * pads wear faster * rotors tend to crack and last less * questionably look better RE: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - garage - 10-01-2010 Well that all makes sense. That idea is out the window then i guess. RE: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - ForcedInduction - 10-02-2010 Vented rotors are far better. Drilling is for letting out the brake pad gasses, which only happens when the brakes get very hot. Unless you're multi-lap racing or dragging your brakes down the mountains I can't see any benefit. In any case, diameter > holes/slots. The Big Brake upgrade using 1986+ W126 rotors/calipers has far better results if you have 15"+ wheels to put on it. RE: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - garage - 10-02-2010 (10-02-2010, 05:44 AM)ForcedInduction Vented rotors are far better. Well two seperate times once in a w116 and most recently in my 240D, I was coming down from from a VERY twsity, switchback filled, steep road from the Mt. Baldy ski lifts near my house. The w116 i just noticed extreme brake fading, and in the 240 i thought my car was on fire the drivers side front brake was smoking so bad. There was no dragging the brakes down the hill, i was in a low gear but the drive up and down really pushes these cars to there limits. Im definetly gonna go with the 15inch rotors then. These can only be put on the front right? The calipers mount right up with stock hardware? RE: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - ForcedInduction - 10-02-2010 (10-02-2010, 11:25 AM)garage The calipers mount right up with stock hardware? All you need are the rotors, calipers, backplates and 15" or larger wheels. RE: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - garage - 10-02-2010 But this is only for the fronts right? Isnt the breaking power somthing like 70%front/30%rear on these cars? RE: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - ForcedInduction - 10-02-2010 Yes, there are no known upgrades for the rears. RE: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - Captain America - 10-02-2010 The braking power is really great on these cars. I can lock all four wheels on dry asphalt. Its just the fade that it a problem... anyone tried some brake ducts for better/faster cooling? RE: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - garage - 10-02-2010 (10-02-2010, 10:49 PM)ForcedInduction Yes, there are no known upgrades for the rears. Well i mean ive seen drilled, slotted/vented, and slotted/drilled rotors for the rear. I would be open to putting vented/slotted rotors on the rear while upgrading the fronts to 15inch. RE: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - jonbobshinigin - 10-06-2010 Some input on cross-drilled rotors: I put Zimmerman Cross drilled, and Akebono Euro brakes on my 1987 300TD 2 years/25k+ ago and the rotors hardly have a lip and the brake pads look new. My stopping power is plenty sufficient, though not quite as good as the later 124 dual piston calipers. I recently put Stainless Lines on the rear and that made it a bit more firm. If I brake hard however, I have noticed a bit of a shimmy near the end. Rear right caliper was replaced recently as well. RE: Cross Drilled Rear Rotors - Silberpfeil - 10-10-2010 Anybody try Pagid pads? What kinds of pads do people like? |
