My 87 300d - ncturbo300d - 06-16-2010 I got rid of my 85 about a year and a half ago and after a while decided I really wanted another MB diesel. I searched for about two months and drove 240's, 300's, d's, sd's, and sdl's in years ranging from 74-93. I finally decided on the 87 300d that I now have. The interior is in pristine shape along with the exterior (for the most part.) It had been totaled out before I purchased it and the P.O. did a hack job putting a new trunk on. The motor is super solid (from what I can tell) and I plan on starting a few mods as I can afford them. Thus far all I have really done is blacked out the wheels reblacked the bumpers, mirrors and handles, and spray bombed the trunk white to match the rest of the vehicle. Also I got rid of the bald tires and picked up a set of goodyear eagle gts. I do have drop springs I purchased from biohazard and an hid kit (both of which need to be installed.) I thought I had before pics of the car but I will have to find some. For now just a few I took monday night. OH and the sunroof is still stuck in vent. No luck getting it closed as of yet. RE: My 87 300d - Biohazard - 06-16-2010 Nice ride! Can't wait to see how it looks with the springs in! Did you black out the grill too? RE: My 87 300d - ncturbo300d - 06-16-2010 oh yea. forgot to mention that and I removed the cross slats as well. RE: My 87 300d - Captain America - 06-17-2010 I want one! RE: My 87 300d - ncturbo300d - 06-18-2010 i love this one so far. Its a sweet ride and MUCH faster than my 85. Hopefully with a few upgrades I may be able to surprise some ricers RE: My 87 300d - ncturbo300d - 06-20-2010 Also I may add handles much better and is quieter than my 85. I installed my HIDs Saturday night and as soon as I left my friends house got pulled over with in 2 minutes. Cop said they were "bright as hell" and that "I blinded him when I came up from behind"... OOOPS. I think I need to put some type of coating over my housing to dim them just a bit. But they are 1000X better than then almost non-existent light that my old bulbs projected. RE: My 87 300d - Tymbrymi - 06-21-2010 (06-20-2010, 10:25 PM)ncturbo300d HIDs Saturday night and as soon as I left my friends house got pulled over with in 2 minutes. No offense, but GOOD!!! If you put HIDs into your US spec headlight housings you really deserved it. It is marginally better if you put it in euro housings. Putting HIDs in any reflector based housing will always result in dangerous glare. Some are obviously worse than others with the cutoff, but the result is always too much glare to the oncoming driver. If you want to have HIDs that don't blind the oncoming driver, you need to get projector housings. Most people find that if they get higher wattage H4 bulbs (you can get 80W low-beams) you get close to the HID output. The best part is that the filament is in the proper location to provide a good cutoff/beam pattern. My $.02 RE: My 87 300d - ncturbo300d - 06-21-2010 I figured our what was wrong and why I got pulled over but I forgot to post. When we pinned the new wiring we hooked up the high/low beams backwards so I actually got pulled over for projecting my highbeams at him. I also adjusted the lights because the housing was making it point up higher than it should. RE: My 87 300d - ncturbo300d - 08-11-2010 the 87 is no more.... the tensioner on the front for the pulleys broke off the block leaving a huge gaping hole where tons of oil poured out. I hated to do it but I sold it to a guy for $200 because I live in Chicago now and working on your ride that is parked on a side street isnt that easy (especially if it involves a motor swap) But she did get me up here from NC doing 75 the whole time while averaging about 30 mpg... Im gunna miss the ol' girl! But I am saving up for another. RE: My 87 300d - winmutt - 08-11-2010 Wow I wonder how that happened. And what I need to do to make sure that doesnt happen to my car. RE: My 87 300d - Tymbrymi - 08-11-2010 Sorry to hear that!! (08-11-2010, 08:28 AM)winmutt Wow I wonder how that happened. And what I need to do to make sure that doesnt happen to my car. It happened to Dave M. as well... he had to replace the entire front timing cover... The new one had extra gussets/supports around the tensioner; I wonder why? RE: My 87 300d - ncturbo300d - 08-11-2010 yea thanks guys. Im not sure what Im looking for this time but it will in all likelihood be another diesel... although a gasser may work out better so I dont have to run a 1000 ft extension cord for my block heater. |
