Diffrence om617 turbo and non turbo - BRABUS - 07-28-2010 Hello I´m going to build a custom om617 with h rods. But whats the diffrence on om617 turbo and non turbo? I know there are thicker rods in the om617 turbo and it has oil cooled pistons. Is the pistons and the crackshaft the same? Is there any diffrence on the head? same camshaft? and so on? The turbo Blocks have oil jets for piston cooling. N/A Pistons have a smaller wrist pin than the turbo units. Turbo crankshafts are nitride hardened while n/a cranks are harden differently. Later n/a head castings are the same as the turbo units. Valvetrain is different – the cams have different grind spec and valves are sodium filled. 79 and older n/a heads used the bigger threaded loop style glowplugs, Turbo engines of the same era had pencil style glow plugs. .
