1991 mercedes 350 sdl - tilldeath - 08-21-2010 i found a car i thought about looking at. what engine is this car? does it have flaws? is the 1987 300sdl better than the 91? or is the 1987 the perfect model? is this a good deal? it is black. nice looking from pictures. thanks guys! 1991 mercedes 350 sdl it is in excellent condition inside and out, no problems, great car, runs and drives great, everything works as it should power windows sunroof a/c etc. 210K, gets 28-32 mpg and is a nice spacious car I will take 6000 obo RE: 1991 mercedes 350 sdl - meareweird - 08-21-2010 Are you selling or buying it? I am confused by your post. Anyway the 350 has the 3.5 engine which will eventually burn oil till it dies. The engine was "overstroked" from the factory and the pistons slap around at the bottom of the stroke eventually wearing out the cylinder bores. I wouldn't buy one, much less one with more than 200K miles on it. RE: 1991 mercedes 350 sdl - jonbobshinigin - 08-22-2010 What he said...although many of the engines were replaced my factory. But you should DEF know for sure before purchasing. They used the 3.0 block and made it 3.5, but did not re-enforce the rods, so typically around 75-100k, they would began consuming oil because a rod got slightly bent and began wallowing the cylinder. If you wiki om603, it explains it a bit more. Stay away unless you can confirm that it was replaced! On another note, I do not think that is the chassis you want for tuning. Great cars otherwise! RE: 1991 mercedes 350 sdl - tilldeath - 08-22-2010 i am sorry. i am looking to buy. so i take it that the 1987 300d is the premo diesel car? i like a big car like this. but i suppose that it wouldnt handle like the shorter cars. the only difference is suspension and wheelbase correct? RE: 1991 mercedes 350 sdl - winmutt - 08-22-2010 The 91 SDL (w126) and 87 300D (w124) are completely different. The 87 had the #14 head from the factory which is likely to warp/crack when overheated. Ironically the SD (W140 maybe the 91 as well) has a #22 head which is a perfect combination with the 87 engine. RE: 1991 mercedes 350 sdl - tilldeath - 08-22-2010 sounds like need to find a 91 car with a good head. and a 1987 car with a bad head! and mix the two!!! put the 91 head on a 1987 car! i need to learn how to know what head a 1987 car has on it. can you look at a casting number on top or something? RE: 1991 mercedes 350 sdl - ForcedInduction - 08-22-2010 As well as more efficient because of the updated swirl prechambers. |
